I dont know if its the same cause i research it and it sad that shounen ai is based on their story or something, but yaoi is more like 18+ or a bl that contains seggs

yaoi is an outdated term. whether a story with romance between two boys has seggs or not its simply bl.

Anything that involves two men relationships are called BL... Whether it's shounen-ai or yaoi... And ppl should stop using those terms

What exactly would be used in their place? If I'm looking for a BL that is safe for work I look for shonen-ai. If I want something more explicit, there's yaoi. Then there's smut and we all know what that means but in all seriousness is there another more appropriate term to use when referring to what I would describe by the names shonen-ai/yaoi?

Yaoi/shounen-ai are outdated terms...other ppl mostly in the west misinterpreted it ,,, no one in Japan uses it... It's all BL whether it has explicit scenes or not... Well it's up to you if u want to use it... But trust me they'll be all confused and will misunderstood it as gay porn... Which is sad...

no ik what bl is. from what i learned bl is boys love and shounen ai is when the mc's are two young boys are close friends but never loved each other romantically. thats it. bl=gay shounen ai=no gay. ik what is the difference between yaoi and bl pls dont think so low of me.

On other side, Given, and Dokyuusei are shounen-ai... "ai" means love and shounen-ai means BL or Boy's Love...

Yaoi=gay/ has explicit scenes / rated 18+
Shounen-ai = gay/all ages / they basically doesn't show any explicit scenes but kisses are allowed
