im telling you uenoyama is just so half baked to me and it's a shame because literally everyone has a fleshed out story and he's the literal main character and yet nothing about him really stands out. and idgaf if this is an unpopular opinion, he's in the cuck chair and mafuyu is with shizuragi. like i have found uenoyama's piss poor communication skills and his SEVERELY bad timing so irritating the entire series, i just wish mafuyu was with hiiragi & shizu instead. hell, mafuyu with hiiragi is so good.
i have re-read given over and over, trying to give it the benefit of the doubt and instead it continues to irritate me, and it's only just uenoyama. i'm so tired of the forced miscommunication in order to keep the plot going and I'm also very irritated at the AUTHOR and the FANS who keep bringing up yuki. like obviously the fans are annoying, but the author has developed yuki and mafuyu so much and just keeps refusing to build mafuyu and ue's relationship because instead they prioritized everyone else. and it's so frustrating because uenoyama is the damn main character and he gets on my nerves

everyone mad at mafuyu are dumb. like just straight up dumb. not only had mafuyu moved on from yuki, but it's like the CORE part that he moved on and had liked uenoyama pretty early.
Obviously he processes his grief slowly, but he still decided to actually move on with his life, that's why months later he got into a relationship with uenoyama.
And IN FACT I THINK UENOYAMA IS MORE FLAWED, especially in the whole situation. My biggest pet peeve with this series is that Uenoyama finished the song Yuki made for Mafuyu. In the process, he got close to Hiiragi & Shizu and then AVOIDED Mafuyu to finish the song. You know. The EXACTTTTT same thing Yuki did before he DIED. Before he KILLED himself.
And people had the audacity to get mad at Mafuyu for being like "Hey my boyfriend is avoiding me and I don't want music to be the reason my SECOND relationship ends." LIKE WHAT???? HIS BOYFRIEND WAS ACTIVELY AVOIDING HIM AND MAFUYU WAS RIGHTFULLY FRUSTRATED. ESPECIALLY, because this is the same EXACT behavior Yuki did before they got into a HUGE fight and then YUKI KILLED HIMSELF.
And guys PLEASE, from the very beginning, it's like Mafuyu was able to handle and move on with Yuki's death and the only people who want to keep remembering Yuki is literally everyone BUT Mafuyu !!! Of course he's going to miss Yuki because that's his first love, childhood friend, and his best friend. But he legitimately has had feelings for Uenoyama from the beginning of this manga and has romantically LONG MOVED ON FROM YUKI.
Especially the fact that Uenoyama feels obligated to remind Mafuyu of Yuki and complete this song Yuki made. He DOESN'T NEED TO DO THIS. In fact I still don't understand why the fuck he agreed. Because if he refused, he was still going to play for Hiiragi and Shizu anyways !!!!!!!! This whole plot line doing that was just awkward and clearly only made for angst once again.
I feel like I'm going insane because the Mafuyu hate is literally so stupid to me and doesn't make any sense. Because he OUT OF EVERYONE, moved on from Yuki pretty early on in the story. By the time he meets and is enthralled by Uenoyama, he ALREADY MOVED ON. So don't give me crap about how he can't move on because he literally has.

MAFUYU was the one who avoided uenoyama after the debut talk without even giving him a valid reason and then went on to spiral ON HIS OWN. uenoyama even tries time and time again to get him to talk bit he absolutely refuses and it's uenoyama once again having to do shit on his own. mafuyu would rather talk to someone else (ugetsu) than his boyfriend about his problems but yeah sure uenoyama is the one who's at fault here lol
and imma need YOU reread it. the point of the arc is that mafuyu avoided uenoyama because his ass kept bringing shit up at absolutely the WORST timing and then getting mad at mafuyu for it. pls remember that uenoyama is finishing the song mafuyu's DEAD boyfriend was making. HE WAS AVOIDING MAFUYU, making mafuyu frustrating and then mafuyu in turn avoided uenoyama for his actions, mirroring what UENOYAMA was doing initially.
and i don't know why ANY of you read given so callously to Mafuyu, because what happens to him is pretty terrible. and since you wanna act like im crazy, let me break it down for you.
1) Mafuyu literally has his boyfriend KILL HIMSELF because of the words he said. They were just in an ordinary argument because his boyfriend was so obsessed with music and making it about mafuyu, that in return, yuki was actually IGNORING mafuyu.
2) He beats himself up over this, but everyone else doesn't blame him because they all knew Yuki was a little mentally ill and it seems those spur of the moment words were enough for him to die. So obviously, Mafuyu becomes reclusive.
3) He goes to a different high school to his friends and stays reclusive. He meets this cool guy and then that becomes his new boyfriend. BUT issues arise because Uenoyama decides to help Shizu and Hiragi as a bassist. The issue is that he is literally working on the song that Yuki was making for Mafuyu, the same one that also caused them to fight because Yuki ended up IGNORING Mafuyu.
4) THAT LEADS TO THE PROBLEM. Uenoyama ends up working so hard on the song, that he ends up ignoring Mafuyu and spending his time with Shizu and Hiragi after school so that they can finish it. Mafuyu finds this a problem, because he sees that this is the EXACT same pattern Yuki went through right BEFORE he killed himself.
5) The debut question. Not only do I think it's INSANE that you say Mafuyu is such a huge problem when in reality the bigger problem was Uenoyama literally ignoring his boyfriend and finishing the song that seems like a terrible decision. But regardless, obviously debuting is a huge decision to make so OBVIOUSLY Mafuyu was hesitant because he didn't even know what he himself wanted to do as a career.
6) AND he told Ugetsu, not his BOYFRIEND BECAUSE OF A VERY GOOD REASON. Ugetsu is a real adult with a career in music, PROFESSIONALLY. So it's obvious that he would ask an adult with a real music career, questions about what is it like. And especially, Mafuyu's GRAND QUESTION, which is WHY he avoided Uenoyama, was that he didn't know what he would do if he had to choose music or Uenoyama. Because he himself said that at this point in his life, he might choose music. But he wouldn't know what he would do if he lost Uenoyama. Which again, VALID concern to have because obviously if he's a celebrity, it's not like he can be openly gay easily and he was scared of his relationship with Uenoyama changing, where one day they broke up, but he was still stuck in this band with him. That's WHY he went to Ugetsu, and Ugetsu told him that for himself, it's already too late to ask that because he already chose music over Aki. That's why he pushes Mafuyu to watch Hiragi, Shizu, and Uenoyama perform.
This happens in a very, VERY clear way. They explain verbatim in given their feelings. SO i'm confused on why YOU'RE confused. And I do believe Uenoyama is at fault, because he thought about his boyfriend for just a second, he would understand why Mafuyu is so hesitant about everything.
please tell me what "bad timing" you're talking about cause as i said given as a BAND were on a break, uenoyama gets asked about playing support for syh, he agrees and mafuyu doesn't stop him from playing support either, he even goes to some of their live shows! and then the debut talk happens and uenoyama is excited cause yeah that's what he's supposed to feel, for him to see a future for his band and a musician. and it's not like he's fucking forcing mafuyu to debut, he just expresses his genuine excitement at the prospect and asks mafuyu what he thinks and mafuyu starts spiraling on his own and ignores uenoyama first and lmfao why are YOU mad at uenoyama for this? should he have forced mafuyu to think about debuting when that talk alone made mafuyu ignore him? he's focusing on making music and good for him! he was never mad at mafuyu either wtf are you talking about
and all that shit about yuki uenoyama doesn't fucking know cause no one fucking says anything to him! all he knows of yuki is through other people rather than his own boyfriend. he can't read minds. he won't know what's wrong if no one tells him. i ain't reading all that please take your own advice and go reread the manga.

lmfao there were literally no problems in their relationship before the debut talks. you act like uenoyama was demanding mafuyu to debut after ignoring him which didn't happen at all. he was just asking mafuyu what he thought. cac -> uenoyama plays support for syh -> given takes a break -> mafuyu has no problems with him playing support -> debut talks -> mafuyu spirals. and even AFTER this uenoyama makes time for mafuyu as much as he can cause syh is set to debut which means he's gonna HAVE to prioritize syh above anything else, he goes to akihiko and haruki for advice, asks hiiragi and shizusumi too. one day mafuyu is supportive and the next he's ignoring uenoyama, see people would've found fault in uenoyama even if he wanted to ask mafuyu at this point cause mafuyu is a uwu traumatized baby who needs to be taken care of at all times. uenoyama is also a 17 year old kid in his very first relationship and you want him to act like a therapist for mafuyu.

I was pleasantly surprised that they acted like a real gay couple and that they were actually very realistic about their future. They decided to come out to their friends and families. They even wanted to get married and looked for a flat that would allow them to be together. They even expanded their future together, including their future jobs.
It's a really really sweet story and I love that they went right for building a future together. Not hiding their relationship for forever, which definitely was a reality, but now? I think this perfectly sums up a gay love story in today's world. People are wary, but so many people are actually building a future together.
man i can't believe i'm here again. after i read the ending in real time i haven't gone back to read this since, but man i'm just reminiscing on this series and it frustrates me to no end. it's so complex and just painful.

and i think the strongest and weakest part of the series is about eunyung and haejoon's complicated ass relationship. obviously it drives the story but I also just wish there was something more done about the end for them. I ship them, but also they're just beyond a ship. if anyone asked this is not a bl, in fact it's worse. they're doomed by the narrative to be foils and never one the same page about anything. like even writing this i want to cry because there's just no way i can sum up their frustrating ass relationship other than that it was frustrating and incredibly painful.
this series is just pain like deadass. i both deeply love and deeply deeply hate this manhwa. i just know that regardless, i'm gonna be thinking about no home for the rest of my life because it changed my brain chemistry that much
