That last scene is what got me here. I think that he thought his plan worked by him coming to him but when the prince decided to leave anyways, Lion got desperate. Also the path to his kingdom was the only one that wasn't ambushed. I think he figured out that the real prince had a shadow and he had to do that to get the fake one to come to him. I do hope I'm wrong and maybe that's with the author wants us to think up to this point.
But let’s agree this would be such a wonderful and crazy plot twist, I would love that
