The reason why most artists draw two sets of ears is simply because it looks VERY weird and uncanny for a human to not have ears. Especially if the character doesn’t have long enough hair to cover the sides of their face. It’s only top tier professional artists who are able to draw characters with mid-length or short hair with animal ears.
Tbh I just read the manga Wolf Pack (the art is top tier though, I love this author) and they don't have human ears and it does look pretty natural tbh. They had a unique way of doing it with the fur coat (but even when they were almost 100% humans -the ears and tail) they still didn't have human ears. Because the hairline was pushed closer, giving it a more natural look. I definitely think it can be worked around but idk
Okay so I read novel and turns out this is something that actually only happens in the manhwa. In the novel his clothes DO disappear (he still has human ears tho when he has his cat ears, it's confirmed). So this plot hole among some other small changes are only here idk why

To be fair both of em seem to just be really huge as well. But i’ve also recently learned that children are incredibly small (i’ve seen some that are so teeny u could literally trip over them cause they won’t be in ur line of sight )
