In the novel, by this point, they've dived even deeper into Hyoseop's past and trauma (which they might reveal in a couple chapters of the manhwa, so I'm not sure if you want more in-detail spoilers there). I can't remember exactly how long Hyseop spends with the old man, but it's between 6 months to a year. The farm is off the grid, no internet or service all, you gotta travel to town to get signal, so Hyoseop has no idea what's been going on. The old man takes care of him and provides for him the entire time, treating him like a grandson, and Hyoseop helps him farm and travel to the town which is HOURS away on his slow tractor. During this LONG period, Adante is practically going insane looking for him. Once he does track him down, you can FEEL how pissed and obsessed he is, which flags Hyoseops trauma. He goes into a panic attack and when the shield lights up, it had been so long I almost forgot about the stone, and you feel so relieved that he's safe. Adante is honestly distraught by the fact that Hyoseop was so scared that the stone reacted to him as a threat. He's actually almost pissed by the fact.
Then when the portal opens up, Adante has to beg him not to jump in because Hyoseop was genuinely debating it. The black shadow hand reaches out to pull Hyoseop in, but Adante blocks it and gets grabbed instead, but he's strong enough that it doesn't pull him in. The old man comes outside, frightened about the portal, and a bunch more hands shoot out and start destroying the farm and land. Seeing how the destruction of the farm upsets Hyoseop and that it disrupted their conversation, Adante says he'll be in and out of the portal and beat it within 20 minutes... but he wanted Hyoseop to wait for him so they could finish talking. Hyoseop agrees, but when Adante goes in, Hyoseop gives the old man the protection stone and uses a teleport scroll to disappear again. He never steps foot in the portal, but a shadow hand did grab his backpack before he took off, so Adante believes he got snatched up after he went in.

Sure, I can give you where I read! But I must correct myself. I realized OG author of this thread and I might have mixed up our timing with the old man. Hyoseop is in hiding a bit before meeting the old man and for a LONG time after the old man, but the novel described a lot of scenes with him, so I think that's why we got confused.
