I think people are too afraid of understanding their bad side and admitting to it, everyone can be horrible, jealous, deceiving and cruel and everyone can be honest and brilliant and fair, it's just that accepting the good traits is way easier, reassuring yourself with "I'm a good person", admitting to it scars people, shatters this image they have of themselves.
