Ok, after thinking a while I think it's like this: for the game to reset those 2 who gained consciousness must die, so if player 2 dies and player 1 manages to escape/complete the game, player 2 escapes/completes the game as well. Because in order for the game to actually reset, it requires those 2 to die, also it would be very absurd if player 1 escapes and the player 2 is just left behind.
