I ship Athy with Ijekiel. Well, I already know the ending and I'm not against it, but I'll always feel like the ARTIST who created this manhwa put so much effort into making Athy x Ijekiel scenes look magical. Now I have to clarify that I've never read the novel and maybe Athy has more chemistry with Lucas there, but so far what I've seen from reading the manhwa version is, they seem more like good friends to me. Even the scenes that are supposed to make Lucas appealing (like the first time they meet or that one time he ties her shoes for her korean-oppa style) look kinda normal compared to Ijekiel scenes. Just look at the effort the artist had put to make Ijekiel and Athy's first time meeting look that dreamlike, jesus i was blown away. It tugged my damn heartstrings. The other times I saw the artist use that much effort are her scenes with Claude (esp around the debutante chapters).
When I pointed out in a reply to some thread that I don't see chemistry between Lucas and Athy, someone said it's because this story focuses on the father/daughter relationship, and Athy has always been focused on her own survival hence she doesn't pay much attention to boys. I agree with that, because the artist has not dedicated many panels to her blushing around them or any panel that would indicate she is attracted to them in a romantic way. (or maybe I did miss something) And I mean, Lucas is that childhood friend who I can't imagine Athy being in an amorous relationship with. Yeah that might go for Ijekiel too because she doesn't see him that way but at least she has a clue that he likes her, and the artist makes it so easy for me to ship them too.
Another point I'd like to make contains some spoilers so...
[spoilers]
Lucas is more like the Deus Ex Machina to the story who sort of disappears when Athy needs company the most? Yeah and since he's Deus Ex Machina once he comes back everything gets resolved. Since at this point the way Athy thinks of him is still like that of a friend she can rely on ("Lucas quickly come back and solve this mess!") I wonder how her feelings will transition into romantic ones. Because if she starts suddenly falling for him after he saves the day, then it's going to be some cheap damsel in distress romance that I really don't like.
[end spoilers]
Regardless, this story's main focus isn't romance anyway. Even if the romance isn't done well in my opinion, it doesn't take away from other great things.
oh hey johannes, what kind of fabric is your shirt made from?
ML
ML material i say
Too bad author Korean. The never seem to always mistake ML material with the cheap SC material... (● ̄(エ) ̄●)
Yeah, this is most shoujo's mistake isn't it, making the second lead too perfect. And they often appear when the MC just got hurt by the ML too, so the audience falls in love with them instead and question why MC would choose the ML instead of the one guy who's never hurt her. I wish authors would realize that. I've been a long time patient of the second lead syndrome at this point.
This is why I liked Peach Girl
