she's not just a helpless, passive subject to be pursued by the antagonist but the story has already established that she also has a different side to her that's 'not quite right'
so it'll be interesting how both of them will try to be one step ahead of the other. while obviously, the psycho bf is gonna be on top of the secrets and run the show for a while, i hope we gradually get moments where FL catches him with a show of her inherent ruthlessness too
my interest usually drops by 50% when the misunderstandings are resolved/the MCs get together, but it's occasional stories like these that keep it interesting after the established relationship that i really like

because after that fight, even if he did feel a smidge of guilt towards Dan for jumping to conclusions, i shudder to think what kind of treatment Dan would still get while he's in this manic and depressed state as an outlet for his frustrations
it isn't the usual "I put you on a pedestal and think you're infallible so i'll follow you." or "i fear and admire this man so much he's my idol"
it's more like, "look at him, he's our babyboy, our pathetic sad wet beast, our specialest hard working little guy. he's so lame. i'm so proud of him. he'll be in danger if he leaves our sight so how dare you assign him elsewhere, we're going feral rn. if our squad leader dies i'll kill everyone in this encampment and then myself."
