If you find the trial in this story interesting you are either a fucking child or stupid bro. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that you do not need an explicit reason for divorce, like I can kinda of see what the author was trying to do but I can’t anymore the trial is so off putting to me. The only reason you would need to go to divorce court is if you want a claim of property you used to own as a married couple. they literally stated that the point of the whole trial was to see if the husband gave reason enough for divorce because it wasn’t like she wanted to leave with any property. like I know this is prolly like the 1800 but saying you can’t js leave your husband cuz he was an asshole is crazy and feels extremely objectifying. Maybe there’s a law in the books setting that says there does need to be a reason for divorce since this was a political marriage, but if there was, the author should have made us, the readers aware. I also read the spoilers so other than the trial being shit the plot is pretty much as well.
With the laws of our time they’re trying to put the implication of the old western times when we wore dresses like that back then you needed an explicit reason to get divorced because that wasn’t normal nor OK you were kind of the ownership of your husband

It’s because it’s set in a time where you weren’t allowed to divorce unless you could show that he or she had actually tormented you in some way, simply being ‘unhappy’ wasn’t a good enough reason to allow what at the time would have been a huge stain on the family’s honour.
So I get why nobody likes the ml, he’s an asshole and he did originally pit his consorts against each other. Like that’s obviously not right but y’all need to understand that he never ever intended to acknowledge any of the women, so in the end it’s not just about the mcs usefulness that he is so obsessed with, it’s more along the lines of him feeling like she does everything for him and is dedicated to him at least in some way, so he prefers her over all the other girls. Is he still an arrogant asshole? Absolutely, but take in to consideration why he is one and distorting the reasons why he chose the mc js ruins the story completely. I personally don’t understand the hate, as an avid reader of historical western novels I tend to start of the book with no faith in the ml and I have to say this book is definitely one of the better ones.
So understand that because the mc has a fucked up idea of how children should act, the whole story is portrayed as a much more serious vibe and is overall pretty exaggerated. Like I get it, when you’re a kid, your issues always seem much bigger than they actually are. Like I’m not downplaying the traumas that these children have, but for a lot of stories that have literal children as main characters, you tend to wonder how long you’ll have to see the characters be in such situations as basically babies. All I’m trying to say is, because the plot is supposed to be one that involves a lot of healing because all of these kids have their issues, I personally wish for the kids to at least be a bit older so that it would make sense for them to actually process what they feel properly and respond a little better in these situations. So I think if things continue to be as repetitive as they are I might drop the story. I’ve also read plenty of books that have mcs as babies and I didn’t dislike them as much, it’s just specifically in this one that seems so exaggerated and boring. (JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION SO IF YOU LIKE IT KEEP READING IT)
There no way they actually consider each other friends, they felt absolutely no guilt after killing her son they are all without a doubt, sociopaths. The main dude is definitely a psychopath, but both socio and psychopaths cannot feel like actual love or any affection, so the fact that he’s over here crying isn’t because he cares. Like there has to be something deeper about their relationships because their sense of camaraderie is strange to me.

Imma be 100% honest, I only stuck around to see the kid. Plot was ass, very dramatic there was just to much goin on, the misunderstandings were just all in all dumb, like I get that in dramas there need to be certain comedic acts of idiocy but this was just to much. The mc just ended up looking dumber and dumber as the story progressed. I skimmed through all the sex scenes cause even those parts were not interesting. Was hoping for the kid to have a little sister was kinda hoping to see a time slip where the kids grew up well. Another person ick of mine was just the lack of women involved in the story, and even the mc’s mother just brushed over her whole story as if it was nothing even though it was clearly fucked up. And we really did not need that crazy girl from the psych ward wth

Like yes he’s being homophobic but it’s more out of the idea that despite being in love with mc he can’t picture himself with him, he also is mentally ill so since he doesn’t see himself as normal he can’t picture himself as happy.
