what's with people wanting complex characters and getting mad when they're delivered with them? the dynamics between their social classes and the oppression of the monarchy had a profound impact on the ml. i think the story is beautiful. it's not one dimensional or predictable and is definitely one of the higher tier manhwas out there that addresses these issues.
they both have issues and traumas to sort out. i'm hoping the story will go in that manner.

Makes me believe there's a bunch of little kids reading this. Honestly, where's the media literacy? This is actually one of the best novel adaptated in a long while. The complexity of characters and the humanity they portray is excellent. Hopefully there are more readers who appreciate the story and just skip the comment section to save themselves from all this idiocy.

genuinely what am i even reading.. not even about the physical pseudo incest which i can tolerate in this setting given the complex dynamics but like... at this point what is the plot? what is the conflict? it's just the same repetitive internal dilemmas recycled every ten chapters in a different location..

Hey, this is a reply to "lady devil" if you wanted to read a different opinion:
I think the story is both a mess and also genius since it has a commentary on a lot of different social discussions. If you take it as a literal story it's just a mind fu*k but if you take bits, it says a few things:
1. A story about the generational trauma inflicted by a madman? And also war which took many lives.
2. A story about the decrepit way women have been treated by men and the abuse some women put those feelings towards abusing those they "love" though the same or similar torment (as much as they can make it the same while not doing the same if that makes sense?)
3. A commentary on poor mental heath due to outside factors and trauma one has experienced throughout life which certainly could be helped with therapy but if not then I guess just being of a stronger mind than the thoughts / hallucinations to pull you through will do it?
4. The coming of age story where messed up things have happened unto the main characters but it allowed them to grow a lot more and decide on their own future?
5. The desire for forbidden/ unattainable things and the action of taking innocents lives, which in this story, ends up destroying every person who held or coveted things they shouldn't have: the mother with the abuse to use wishes to attain things, the father who abused his "son" to obtain more land and riches (and I suppose more power?), the father of Indris who wanted his son's "lover", and of course the nanny who pushed to destroy a family which had already been cursed to be destroyed by taking a baby's life. Possible that this was just a warning type story but the ending doesn't make sense.
At any rate, I'm sure there's more to find in this story but I am also confused like you :) Thanks for letting me rant my thoughts haha

it's a very nuanced novel, for sure! i could say that for the earlier half, i was completely enthralled i couldn't put it down. the way they battled with the complexity of humanity and its fickleness was captivating. all the characters' morality came into question.
in the later parts, however, starting from when they first ran away, it became a repetitive dilemma of her loving him, hating him, leaving him, and then getting back with him. it became a cycle and it got repetitive and tiring. i stopped at ch 120 so i didn't know what happened eventually.
idk if i'm just not looking more into it but i lost interest at that point that i couldn't care less what happened next. this is a good perspective on it though! thank you for this.
in my case, it just felt like is started off strong and ended pretty weak.
lyrica's mother reminds me of lady featherington from bridgerton. at least, her past self. they mirror each other in wanting stability for their daughters even in their own twisted way.
