It might be because I'm not a mother myself, but ...
As I've understood she got married at 16, gave birth at 17 and was 22 when the kid was 5. I think even back then she was quite young to marry & have a kid. So I understand that at the beginning she had difficulties to cope with her situation and even hated her child.
But wouldn't one get the situation at least after 10 years or so? When the child doesn't seem to need you and if you don't have the courage to suddenly open up (I'd totally understand that), wouldn't you at least try to get to know him from the shadows, like what lessons he has or if he has any friends, etc?
Was she for 18 years after those superficial parties? When the ladies are young it could have been quite fun, but after some time almost every lady turns into a snake, don't they?

Well coming from the parenting after a certain point you can’t really be close to someone no matter how long you’ve been together, I get where you’re coming from but after a certain age the child will feel detached and not wanted so he will stop approaching and since the mother doesn’t really care she will too and even if she starts caring it will feel awkward to try and get involved into his life and even guilty at some points
I think the post partum depression, added with how she couldn’t return to the life she had just piled up and her resentment towards her son grew.

Definitely one of my favorites
I really like this one.
1. It is very understandable, why she used to be timid in the first live. She dearly loved her stepmother and wanted to be loved back.
2. Instead of dying in the mansion through her stepmother's plot she had the chance to see the commoner's life, true friends/family, fight in the war, etc. So when she died she was much wiser / cleverer than she used to be in the mansion. So it's clear how / why the change happened. (In many stories the fl dies bc of betrayal and suddenly changes 180 degree. And I always asked myself, where they found the time to analyse the situation, like isn't a kind of process needed before getting revenge against the ones fl used to love?)
3. The punishment for the stepmother came very quickly! As for the baron, I hoped he would get a harsher punishment. I did like the ml's punishment, but the douchbag can still live a luxurious life. I hoped there would be a way to take away his titel & possession, so that he really has to suffer.
4. She is the countess! And ml is the husband of the countess and not the count! That was such a queen move!
5. The ml didn't suddenly love her. He used to love her. And I think he was disappointed how timid she was, still wanted to protect her, bc of their promise or sth. So when she proposed to him, he tested her whether she is stupid or not. When she proofed herself as clever and worthy, ml was happy and quickly fell in love with her again.
6. There is the potential to have a good complex story by including the stories of the eastern and the western royals. I don't want them to be just 2nd ml (like anyone has a chance against ml), but to have their one stories. I want the princess to crush her brother and become the empress. She won't even need to marry since she already has a child. I want her and the fl to have a wonderful friendship.
Just imagine your favourite calling you mom / dad & you can just pamper them all you want
