Reading further you realised just how let down he was. It's so fucking obvious that the loving grandpa and only decent uncle, only acted this way toward Haemi. The uncle laments in a previous panel, about how he doesn't know how Haemi was able to overcome being raised in such a hell hole with all the abuse/trauma... like what the actual fuck. Clearly he, the grandpa and the deceased older brother were there for her. She even had the luck of disowning her father and still being supported by the grandpa and uncle. There's literally no indiction that Sangmin was afforded the same love and care Haemi got, to have the chance to grow up to be a half decent human being. They introduce the granpa and he Literally only mentions his good for nothing offsprings and Haemi. None of them even gave a second thought to the grandson. Can you just imagine how Sangmin grew up? I wouldn't be surprised if the housing staff treated him like a bastard too.
I will explicity say, I am in no way excusing his crimes. But the adults in his life failed him and the damage was done LONG before and there was no fixing him. I just feel so much pity for the character, it's left me feeling weirdly apathetic. I'm currently on chapter 137, and i feel nothing for everyone's happy ending.
Edit: i sobbed through the part with the fire. Why did the author do this??? Villains should stay Villains ╥﹏╥

Made the comment below afew days ago abd i'm happy it came true!!
"Please please, Tell me that Lee Jeong-guen (Lee Sangmin's dad), dies a horrible death or get's paralysed so bad he can only move his eye balls???" - April 21st
Is he related to the MC's primary doctor???
They’re the same person ⎚-⎚ ✧·˖✶ hehe
It’s kind of an eastern storytelling plot-device, where an almost omnipresent narrator becomes catalyst to the story throughout
A member of society who interacts fluidly between classes, like a hairdresser who tends to both the elite and average citizens… etc.
In India we have a history of this plot device in classical drama
I believe the SE Asian cultures would have it too. But yeah I’ll look it up, food for thought.
“The role of the Court Jester is to speak the truth when no one else will,” is a popular concept in fairy tales
In Indian folktale/science of drama, we call it the Vidushaka
He mingled with different classes of society or was present in these situations to act like a fourth wall break (not necessarily) who communicated to the audience the esoteric, critical, analytical or philosophical nerve of the story.
I don't know if the author thought, making the friend "cute and childish" would distract rsaders from him serving the MC to the ML on a platter. It's almost like he was trying to repay the ML for his generosity by pimping out his friend.
I like the rest of the story and their feelings for each other, also the development BUT it doesn't make the beginning any less wrong.
I understand it was a mental breakdown, but how does ignoring someone make your sister and her husband happy in heaven?? If you couldn't look at the pictures, when not give it to him and tell him to keep them in his room??
AND HER HUSBAND is an even bigger piece of shit, cos he knew what was going on with his wife and instead of compensating, being there for his family he chose to actively be a dick and blame A FUCKING CHILD??? Am i the only one who thinks it was him that attacked sensei during his girst geat?
AND it was established that the son of a bitch rarely cared for his wife and the kid so he put all the pressure of the household on someone who had JUST lost their sister, like I still hate the bitch but no wonder she was crazy if she's dealing with that loss guilt and most likely post partum depression like WTF?! AND THEN he fucking said it was the kids fault WHEN THE WHOREBAG WAS NEGLIGENT TO FUCKING EVERYONE
They would honestly rather put him in an orphanage (╯°Д °)╯╧╧???? What pieces of trash, shitheads. I bet that's why the spent so much time at Ryo's house, they were mist probably shit parents too.

She's stunning though ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I was so confused. For a moment there I thought that was the stepmother. All these people are trying to look alike
