While you are right, what had happened was, she was a high-class consort who entertained through her art and talents, however after getting pregnant she was abandoned by the two people that were bidding her and her popularity dropped, and because the person who made her pregnant never redeemed her, she was reduced to having to sleep with customers and contracted syphilis when the brothel was not doing well.

i absolutely agree. in the novel i really felt a huge weight while reading about what rosemond had to go through and i even felt bad for her. even patrizia felt bad and you know how solid her heart is. maybe it's the bright colors and the art style? idk
at some point i even started to justify her evil deeds but she was too annoying for me to wholly forgive her because that was how heavy her past was portrayed in the novel, like damn i was reading it and my throat was choking up from the heavy weight

idk abt yall but to me it's kinda difficult to actually hate her sister. i mean sure confessing to your sister's boyfriend should never be an option, but it's even worse because she didn't have any underlying malicious intent. like, she just did it solely to move on and was even feeling incredibly guilty about it. she's not even cynical at all, which makes her character even more difficult to outwardly hate but nonetheless even more annoying. she seems like a genuine person that just really happened to like her sister's boyfriend (of all fucking people istg) and yeah like any other person, you would want to get over with your feelings by confessing and finally moving on so you can't fault her too much but it just makes you want to hit her head even more tbh
