We can’t blame the MC completely for this. Originally, to me, it was just simply child neglect, but after she said “I wanted to die” I realized a very crucial thing I wish everyone would too. I’m currently in a college level psychology course and we’ve discussed this before. A newly formed mother (or father actually) can develop postpartum depression, which is basically severe depression after childbirth. It’s very extreme and can lead to suicidal thoughts and blaming the child for the empty thoughts and feelings. We also have to take into consideration that the MC was seventeen (I think) and at the prime of her life. I’m not excusing her, but I’m also not blaming her fully. From a psychological perspective, if someone is like that after birth (such as the moment she began to blame the child) then they need to seek treatment. However, looking at the time period of this, all it equates to is child negligence and a terrible MC. I’m glad this book is making this positive but in reality, a woman suffering from postpartum depression doesn’t just miraculously get over it but in THIS case, she’s really TRYING to be a better person. Let her try and I hope the other characters such as her husband ARENT going to bring it up every second they get when she’s genuine about it all.

Yes to this!
Postpartum is a really dangerous sign to look out for right after childbirth. Sometimes even healthy women can develop it.
In modern days expecting parents are taught about postpartum as a preventive measure in my country.
Although I don't know if historically people were aware or not, however there have been plently of records of strangulation after birth.

Yeah it actually took a really long time before the idea developed and women were not blamed as much as they were for their depression. Actually, I’m not sure if you know, but a woman named Andrea Yates was all over the news a really long time ago because her case of postpartum depression was so bad that she drowned her children. There were many factors such as the husband’s pressure, society’s pressure, and that she was involuntarily being pushed in a cult. In this manhwa’s case, I’ve read spoilers and there’s so many factors as to why she began to blame the child and developed the depression, so right now, we’re in the flashback for a couple of chapters to explain a portion of what happened for her to be the way she was.
That was so adorable I’m going soft
A great story, thank you to the translators
