I think the answer is on pages 21-22, Lily plays on Alex mind and confidence. First she says that Cole made a bet to whether he could sleep with her or not ( an issue of trust since Cole had told him to sleep with girls if he could not satisfy him) and then she states that Alex is going out with a gay man (so Cole is the only man for Alex, but it does not mean that Alex could be the only man for Cole)
