Because the translator probably made it sweet. I've seen this happening quite a few times with darker yaoi. A slightly more fucked up story becomes popular, a fan decides they need to translate it and suddenly the story turns into something significantly more romantic than it actually is.
The annoying part is that you end up with two groups of fans. One that reads the actual story and one that reads what is basically a fanfiction which kind of ruins the discussion.
