uhm so this has been my comfort story since before season 2 would be put into making, it was my whole roman empire
but i gotta say im dissapointed with how the ending turned out
it was a happy ending but i couldn't really feel the impact of the story that it used to have during its first two seasons (especially the first one)
main thing that bothers me is that i loved the daughter but she feels like she was there to just take over and have them retire earlier, which what was the point of all that hard work then being done in s1 n 2, i wanted to see them ruling together and teacher her and preparing her more to take over, like i get the point of those 2 seasons kindaaa was to create a better world where everyone especially the future generation would live better but idk
it also rlly bothers me that it didn't feel like they had any actual real bond with her, if the author wanted to add a family aspect to it i feel like they could've done a better job at it but i will say i rlly like that unlike wolfgang and the rest of the now grown generation who had to suffer so much at the hands of the last king, the daughter gets to grow up in a healthy and carefree environment without the pressure of having to be perfect
ig what s3 was mainly lacking was the tension n the crisis tho
it kinda js felt like random side stories mashed together which didn't feel like it had any purpose other than for it to just be there so they could get married, i could very much be wrong but idk I couldn't feel it hitting the same anymore
Epsilon wasn't meant to be a family troup addition to the story, which is why she calls Shin "godfather". It may seem like she was simply made to be the new ruler and as you put it "a way for them to retire early" but that's not necessarily a bad thing, or as simple as you put it.
This will bring us back to the very start, and Shin's motives. Shin didn't want to make a SINGLE good king, he wanted to reform the entire kingdom, just like his father dreamed as well. Wolfgang shouldn't be the only goal, and he surely wasn't. This was literally the crux of their issues together in s2, where Shin was always looking towards what's next, what's best for the kingdom, Wolfgang was fixated on "Didn't we achieve what we want by making me king? Why are you paying less attention to me now?" Because he didn't fully grasp the depth of Shin's goals until later on.
Wolfgang never wanted to be king for power, nor the position, he was doing it for Shin and now that they've achieved his goal Wolfgang wants to pass the baton to someone new while ensuring Shin's aim for a reformed kingdom remains intact. What's happening in s3 is not focused on Epsilon but all the building blocks of the kingdom that will support the new rule of her and the building blocks that will maintain the new outlook that Shin has ingrained in Goldenleonard, which is why it felt like multiple stories mashed together despite them all being connected.
Tbh I do prefer older seasons for the urgency they had and the strong emotions, and s1 will always remain my favorite for how disturbing and packed it was, but s3 doesn't lack luster at all. It's peace, and it's new beginnings with its own problems that are not as adrenaline packed as the seasons before and that doesn't make it less. it's simply fulfilling the goal and plan that was started in the very first chapters in Shin's mind, and watching it come to fruition.
Mind you they also never forced Epsilon into anything, she just decided "Actually I want to be the perfect king and carry that baton and I will fight my way through to be the first female to get the crown and I will make sure my god father's hope and reform remains"
While others see Epsilon as boring and uninteresting simply because she didn't have a tragic suspenseful life, I see her as the best qualities of both Wolfgang and Shin in one person. Stubborn as Wolfgang with big talks and persistent will, and smart, cunning, and willing for change like Shin. She wasn't arrogant, she took advice, and she was open for discussions with the other boy about how a kingdom should be ruled. She fit into her role so naturally, and that's why she didn't need the heavy nurturing people expected her to have from her "parents". I do wish we had more "family" moments with them all, but tbh I don't think Wolfgang and Shin were even ready to be parents or had that capacity, so they were trying their best from their own pov.
i get what u saying and i do completely agree w it i actually dont find her boring nor do i find the need for her to have a tragic life, i mentioned that i like that she gets to grow up more freely in a better environment
it was just my own personal feelings when comparing it to other seasons
no way would i say the writing is bad for the story i love the creators of King's maker cuz like i said its been my comfort story for so long
i feel like it could've used a bit more crisis tho
it didn't have to be something huge and devastating, i just wish we could've seen her in action more i suppose
Finally!!! Someone with similar thoughts to mine. I felt like I wasted 7 years of my life following this manhwa. You and I are the same, this IS my roman empire. I adored s1 with all of my heart and followed the story since 2017, however, the story went downhill from s1. Even I was afraid to admit it when the chapters were still updating.
S2 was okay, not what I expected but didn't really live up to my expectations. The last season was the breaking point for me. It was really lacking when compared to the previous seasons. I felt that the quality of the artstyle, plot, storytelling, and characters degraded.
This manhwa had a really good start. Idk why the momentum was lost when creating the next seasons. I really did expect MORE for the rest of the story, with what buildup of Wolfgang being King and Shin being his aide seemed to offer. But no, I was soooo disappointed until now. Wolfgang and Shin are my children but the authors, sadly, didn't do them justice:(((((
yehh like i still loved it but it felt like it lost the impact yk
it felt kinda dissappointing cuz i feel like they really could have done more within those last two seasons
season one could rlly make u feel the devistating reality they were living in, the impact and the consequences of every action and word while keeping it rlly magical, you could rlly connect to the characters and feel what they were feeling, season two kinda got it but it felt rlly lost in s3
The tone and atmosphere of s1 were vastly different from other seasons. It lost its somber quality and heavy themes, and completely changed into a lighthearted, comedic story.
As the other commenter said, it was the resolution of the story were the characters were more at ease in their environment, however I felt like it didn't really fit with the prior seasons. Idk, multitude of things were changed or went into a route that unfortunately, cheapened the quality of the plot and characters.
This manhwa is really the embodiment of that one drawing of a horse meme lmfao. I still love my boys tho
i agree as i said i dont mind how the story turned out
i just feel like there definitely couldve been more tension involved
but i love them all the same and i love Epsilon all the same
i just wish the story showed her bond with everyone around her even more cuz it felt very surface level
especially with wolfgang who she spent a lot of time with
we've seen that wolfgang attracts small creatures to him so easily with dandy he was so sweet i wish we had gotten that kinda bond with her as well but i understand that s3 was mostly abt the future and how children finally get to live freely without the fear and devistation that they felt in s1 which is also so heartwarming tbh
i take it back
i love fucked up plots but not when there's child abuse amd neglect unless it's important to the plot of the main character like bruh they're frustrating the hell out of me cuz how do u literally hide ur pregnancy, then abandon the child knowing he'll be neglected and then give birth to another very SIMILAR child and raise her with love wtf is this, no cuz the son got abandoned cuz he looked like his dad but the daughter resembles him too, atp js give it an ending idec if its rushed plss

am i being ignorant to sumn if i ask why do we need placeholders ┗( T´□`T )┛</3
the raws are ahead by quite a few chaps, so if seph (the one who uploads the official chapters) doesn't upload these many placeholders, mangago bots will snipe the unofficially translated chapters from another site and upload them here. if the placeholders are here, no chapter can be uploaded. btw, seph has uploaded a new chapter, it's chapter 77!
ohh oki oki ty
