ig this is spoilers but basically khaol made a deal with lari the earth god to bring kaveri(khaols old bride from when he was human) back to earth. to do this they sacrificed river to give life to the river god shuyin. but shuyin didn’t want to live any longer so when river died he was reborn as the next river god. the handsome guy crying is heil the god of the underworld guy. he was sort of in love with river when he was a human and then has been looking for him ever since he disappeared. in short, khaol is a MASSIVE dick and everyone hates him because he killed river to bring back his old bride who doesn’t even want to be there anymore.
