I will never not cry about the wasted potential of this manga. I said it once (or twice) I’ll say it again: the seme is shit.
Gosh how awesome could it have been with a seme who wears high heeels (that’s freaking rarely the case, at least in manga) and has a HEALTHY sadistic streak but no we get this guy who literally has fun when someone is crying bc of him (and not pleasure tears), he toys with the uke but at the same time acts as if he owns him. No real feelings or emotions as if all is a game.
Okay the art is wonderful. I’m very particular about reading bdsm stories cause a lot of them mix bdsm with not consensual stuff and that pisses me off. Cause obviously even if it’s bdsm it shouldn’t have dub con or unconsensual stuff in it. This one is surprisingly healthy about it. With the seme saying stuff like they should keep it in the bedroom and he also tries to be as gentle as possible and tries to ease the uke in.
The thing I don’t like about this story is the possessiveness though. I really hate possessive ppl especially things like wearing a collar at work or saying things like “I don’t want others to see you” or “I want to lock you up” scare and creep the living hell out of me. Also I don’t like that the uke resigned his job bc of his boyfriend.
So all in all I liked it from the bdsm and consent perspective (if I didn’t miss anything) but the possessiveness is a definite nono. Still the manga was better (and healthier) than expected
I’m not really into the hardcore bdsm more like the sadistic partner is very cute and wholesome daily (not faking it but really being like that) and then in bed he gets a sadistic streak. I have to look through my list of already read manga but at the top of my head I recommend: junai dropout (my favourite sm bl, probably one of the top 5 most wholesome smut I’ve ever read), Yakuza wo Shibatte Ii desu ka (soo freaking cute and wholesome and healthy while still pretty erotic!), then I also like Ai Subeki Sadist. I’d definitely recommend those, these are my fav sm mangas (hope I didn’t forget any) and they also are one of my favourite bl manga in general, reread all of them multiple times
Reread it today bc I love kuryuu and I like them as a couple but damn hokuto is very annoying I wouldn’t want to date someone like him. He’s so whiny, selfish and the three times they were fighting, he always was the reason for it bc he doesn’t think first and communicates but imagines some scenarios as true even though he doesn’t even confirm them, also always other ppl have to tell him how to make up. Is he literally not learning from past mistakes?? But anyways he acknowledges when he’s wrong in the end so i guess he alright ;)
Hach another one for the huge pile of „could have been good but no we decided to add some rape“. Btw I didn’t read it because fortunately there were tags. Still puzzling me how we got the over 9.0 rating but it just confirms my theory that ppl don’t care as long the art style is good. There are a lot of stories like that from years ago but they only have 7.6 or smth like that. Why? Bc the art is not that „good“
Okay for all the ppl saying there was a warning: your argument is only solid for ppl complaining that they read into the first chapter and were surprised that there was rape. But most ppl complain because they are disappointed that yet again a story was botched (at least for the most) bc of the decision to add some unnecessary trope. As if a story needs that or worse as if a story couldn’t be good without that.
If you want to read smth. like that, fine be my guest. But don’t complain when ppl voice their disappointment. Without those ppl, the impressionable ppl that read that will eventually regard this as normal. (Aka just look at the whole steaming pile of shojo garbage ;))
Im gonna be completely honest
Some people like the author have a kink for this kind of stuff and fiction is a good place to indulge in these kinks because we know it's different in real life
It's not something any of us would be okay with in real life but people enjoy rape/rapeplay in fiction/manga/porn which this stuff basically is. Doesnt mean anybody wants or encourages this outside of fiction
So it's not surprising that people read these kinds of tropes. Especially because we know a manga will always end well with everything being fine as if nothing bad or morally wrong ever happened.
Preach Everyone should be free to speak out about their feelings. People gotta learn to stop invalidating other people’s thoughts and feelings and that it’s okay for people to have different opinions about everything. If no one ever criticized anything, then nothing in the world would ever change. And readers who complain about rape aren’t even attacking anyone, they’re just voicing out their opinion about a work of art. Just bc there are trigger warnings doesn’t mean readers aren’t allowed to be upset or angry about the toxic elements in the story. Hope everyone finally realizes that every reader’s feelings are valid
Even if the story apart from the rape is as beautiful as you claim the rating still should have suffered BECAUSE there was rape. And the comments could have been like: hey I liked the story but why add the unnecessary rape? instead it’s just being ignored as if it didn’t happen and that’s what I don’t like and understand
Lol, listen... some people can differentiate fictional characters from real people, just because it bothered you doesn't mean it should bother others, the reason you don't see people getting upset about rape as much as they did before is because they grew out of it, it's no longer a major issue because the characters aren't even real to begin with meaning is not causing any harm unless you act upon it in real life.
Let's just say everyone mentioned rape in every single comment, what difference would that make to the story? Sometimes is just best to leave fictional characters where it belongs in fictional work.
I am sure nobody here would assault anyone or rape people they found on the streets.
Look I don’t claim or think that ppl that like these stories are some psycho ass ppl. It’s okay to like the story if apart from the rape the story is good. But thats why criticizing bad things should be a must to improve the manga community in the future. Maybe not just here in the comment section but also on other social media so that (the mangaka actually see this) as well. What I’m contemplating is that ppl don’t criticize things like that enough and that’s why this romanticized rape trope is still thing as if it’s necessary. And what I have seen is that good art is enough to make a lot of ppl forget about these things. You can focus on the good but also focus on the bad too. Otherwise it really seems to ppl that do criticize as if y’all just plainly ignoring the problematic stuff maybe don’t even finding it problematic at all. Maybe not a lot of ppl understand this way because they view yaoi as nothing too serious and that’s why they don’t criticize it like they would with a book or a movie but honestly there are so many beautiful and very good yaoi stories and they just go under this whole fanservice type of yaoi or problematic yaoi and that’s why outsider ppl have bad views about this community (which honestly is understandable). Theres a difference between featuring rape as the bad thing it is or just adding it in as if it’s not a problem at all. If they wanted a messy relationship or a messy start into a relationship they could have also done it without that whole problematic. That is what I’m criticizing. I hope you understand from which perspective I’m writing this

Well, that was (too) intense. ( ̄∇ ̄")
