this characterization of Doyeon is not doing well to make me sympathize with him. I've had female friends who were harrassed by men (i.e. incels) they turned down.

it's getting a little TOO unserious like... I'm starting to think there's an upcoming story conflict and the author's trying to soften the blow

Doyeon's on the cover, so it makes sense that some of the story dedicated to him. but I hate how the main couple *revolves* around Doyeon.

I wish the story was balanced 50/50 between Doyeon and Daehyung x Yiyoung, or maybe even 40% Doyeon and 60% main couple.

idk how the story could be fixed to achieve that balance, but right now the characters aren't treated equally. Daeyoung and Yiyoung already have interpersonal conflicts that are worth exploring in an entire season (different perspectives on romantic relationships; work-life balance, which is literally in the title; and the need to keep their relationship hidden from outside their circle to ensure career success in a homophobic society)

Doyeon seems like his character was written just so Daehyung and Yiyoung can respond with weak, not-true-to-themselves decisions. Daehyung has an emotional outburst towards Yiyoung with no proper discussion afterwards (Yiyoung didn't mind, but it would develop their characters more if they talked about it meaningfully). Yiyoung is unnecessarily naive, putting in little effort to communicate maturely and clearly, and has zero skill to read between the lines (this is a typical writing pitfall for female leads in straight romance too).

it's hard to sympathize with Doyeon cuz he behaves like an incel: "my first love will never return my affection, so I'll do anything to ruin his romantic pursuit. if he wants a gay partner, why didn't he choose me?" do y'all understand what I mean??? if he was a woman, a lot of readers would jump his ass from Day 1 lol

TLDR: story needs to focus on the main couple. Doyeon should be fleshed out more, instead of being a plot device that can be easily replaced by other existing interpersonal conflicts

the perfect balance of romance AND plot! the only other novel adaptation I know that perfectly showed this balance is The Affairs of the Other World Depend on the Corporate Slave.

a common complaint with BL is the lack of plot, but a personal gripe of mine is the other extreme, where there's too much external storylines going on that the romance no longer matters and I start not giving a fuck about the main couple. it's worse when the external storylines are dragged out and not interesting.

I really hope Ennid and Glunn stay together the next time Glunn's curse reactivates! the clock is ticking, and I'm guessing the author's gonna make it happen at the worst time lol

I don't regret what i said about Mi-ok. I'm just glad her grandma still remembers her (it's horrible seeing your loved ones forget you and change personalities, while you can't do anything to stop it). also glad she's not gonna bother Ho and Haebom anymore! there's more than enough homophobic adult characters in this town (who the author will probably introduce soon), I don't need kids to join in too

I'm glad we got side stories, but I really hope they go to couples' counselling after this (somewhere abroad since they're closeted) I thought they'd get their shit together after several years. I expected them to be the type of couple that enjoys light-hearted banter and bickering lol. the poor conflict resolution is definitely realistic, but I just prefer seeing character growth...
