Well I mean they weren’t with each other the entire 5 years, which is why he came back on the verge of corruption. He spent two years pining, loving, and sending gifts, then he found out MC was a dude, flipped out, and immediately got shipped out on a 3 year long mission.

I’ve read this in webtoon first (so i may be mistaken with translations or generally, just misremembering everything since it’s been quite some time but…) there was a part in chapter 25 where she dreamt of the time while she was talking to the Crown Prince - Kislin, her inner dialogue was “Kislin must never find out that I’m lying.” Then proceeds to tell him that she - Ruyan does not have romantic feelings with Iskan - the duke.
I think that’s a big ass clue there’s something wrong with her relationship to the prince and that she has a big fat reason to lie like that (which I assume is to protect Iskan with whatever harm the crown prince can cause.)
