Yeah, most of zombie theme stories portrays a woman as always in the way and can be seen as weakness and attract unwanted assholes, but we don't know that yet in reality because it hasn't happen in real life, but hopefully the views change from this story

People can call the relationship depicted 'toxic', since this is what it is, without it meaning they don't like the work. You don't have to lie and pretend the relationship in the story is healthy to be able to enjoy it. For me it's more weird when people pretend that clearly toxic actions are 'nice' just because they can't come to terms with the fact that they enjoy fictional toxicity. Personally i like this dynamic, even if it's toxic. However i don't pretend it's something else.

And atp in the story the toxicity level is very low since literally nothing has happened yet. All you can really say is that the ML is an asshole and the MC puts up with it bc he needs information from him.

Although your 'actual toxic yaoi' statement was a bit confusing over its intention, i got the general gist. My earlier comment wasn't necessarily aimed at you, it was mostly focused on comments like Monypixh's "there's nothing toxic about it" take, and similar ones I've seen in this thread. I wasn't 'twisting' your words. Also, it was mostly point out how it being more tame, doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that people shouldn't point it out if they want to.
That said, I still stand by my point in general: saying something is "lighter" or "tamer" doesn't erase the toxicity that's still present, which you actually agree with, since you acknowledged it's toxic,but on the lower end. So we're not as far apart as it might've seemed.

As for the "don’t like, don’t read" part, I don't think it applies here. People can recognize toxicity and still enjoy the story, pointing it out isn't the same as hating it. That's the distinction I was trying to make, which a lot of people here love to ignore. Perhaps it interrupts their own criticism around these people. Who knows.
