Now, I feel the foreshadowing of what was going in Khalid's brain. He was true to her, yet lied to her. With that brain, he was supposed to teach Estelle! They could've saved their people together, they could've stayed together and even fell in love. They would've been a perfect match. He was obsessed with the idea of the Estelle he knew and did not give her a chance to grow, and meet the new versions of herself, which in a way is an act of betrayal—one of the most hurtful betrayal, if not the most.
Everything is slowly unfolding and the storytelling is really great, I just have to understand the translations first. Of course I'm grateful for all the translations I've read so far but it doesn't mean they always make sense.
I can't decide yet what ending I want for this. They were still colonized and their countrymen killed, I don't think it's the right way to save their ocuntry. I understand how conflicted Estelle is, that was one of the leaders of the war criminals against her country hahaha. At the beginning, I imagined her plotting revenge, overthrowing the empire, and building her country again, but I'm not seeing it at the moment.
In such a patriarchal world, even without all the abuse, she deserves to have the freedom and life she wants. And then we see how horribly she suffered in all her previous life, including the spoiler with Carcél in the first one. The only time she had a choice, which was even a choice out of survival, was when she was with Emiliano. Inés really deserves the happiest and most peaceful life. I support her however she wants to get it.
I don't know how to feel about this. It feels more like a defeat for Rein, like Wilhelm competed against her. Michael's death, Dulcinea and the Empress' downfall, all felt anticlimactic. You would have thought the story revolved around it for a good 50 chapters. And that Rein had a direct hand on it. It was like her power was stolen from her in these previous chapters, like she's lost and alone. Rein deserves so much better, and she deserves her sweet revenge. If he truly loved her, he would've given her true war, kill the whole imperial family and take over the throne for themselves, something something. That's so sad. But this means the story won't revolve around her revenger anymore, and I'm eager to know the next part.
It's both amazing and devastating to see how the world looks when you take off your rose-colored glasses. Estelle fought for what was right, not knowing how miserable and painful that rightness was.
