People saying that Hikaru didn't like Yoshiki in that sense, jokingly calling him gross and making appreciations about girls... Are you really sure that was not a forced mask he put on to hide as well? Let's not forget his last thought before he died was Yoshiki.. he could as well have been afraid to let his queerness slip, just as much as Yoshiki did.

Here’s what I’ve been thinking,
when someone truly dies, both the body and the mind are gone. The body rots and the mind/soul completely leaves right? Body becomes like an eggshell without the egg inside. And I believe the org Hikaru died and his soul completely moved on to the afterlife so now he’s a brand new person with no connection of his past life. It’s like a full reset. He might’ve been reborn as a human or even as an animal or maybe gone to heaven. We don’t have any info on that so I can’t say for sure.

in this case, the current ‘Hikaru’ is living with Original Hikaru’s memories right? ( Idk how that’s work tho ) He said he’s not sure whether his feelings are the org Hikaru’s or his own. Personally, I think everything he feels for Yoshiki is his own. Caz if the org Hikaru hadn’t completely died and some part of his soul mixed with this ‘Hikaru’ then it’d be like two Hikarus coexisting in the same body and in that case, their feelings could mix. But since i believe the org Hikaru is completely gone then these feelings are 100% this Hikaru’s

I think it is very beautiful and very important to represent a type of love without labels, love that feels so free and so different that no labels apply. They are not just friends but not boyfriends either, their connection runs even deeper. Aside from this, I think Yoshiki is struggling with his feelings for 'Hikaru' because he is still grieving his first love, and has known 'Hikaru' for just a few months. Their love is very new, not like the love he had for Hikaru, which took years to develop since childhood. I really loved how Asako accepted him and said that his attraction wasn't gross, and was adamant on the fact that people and monsters aren't inherently something and they don't need to change

okay it was pretty obvious that yoshiki felt something for the former hikaru, and i always thought thats why he accepted the fake one or tried to because it was like a remnant of his old love, but that description of having someone to confide in that doesnt care (or even understand) how human values (aka homophobia in this instance) works, actually opened my eyes to their dynamic a lot more. i really liked that a lot

it’s so sad how accurate yoshiki’s lifestyle of being a closeted queer guy living in such a small homophobic village, especially when the person you loved the most is jokingly about you’re romantic feelings and calling it somewhat gross. that would be such a huge turn off for me, but for yoshiki… he desperately stays close with hikaru, even through the toughest moments in his life where he feels like he is about to lose it all. it’s even more saddening that the og hikaru used to like a girl that looks almost alike to yoshiki’s appearance. his compulsory heterosexuality drives me completely nuts.

you see how he used “loved” and not love? It’s past tense because the real hikaru is gone and yoshiki feelings are reciprocated to the real him, not the monster. his feelings died with hikaru

I don't know, should I continue reading this or should I just drop this. Been 2 years yet I don't see anything new. Just the same thing again and again. Abuse and r4pe all over again.

This is the one thing I can’t stand about specific readers who strictly read shoujo or green flag ML stories. Such people have insanely high standards to the point it’s toxic, thinking the ML must be perfect, have no flaws, and should never be upset or make the FL/readers upset even a little bit. (They did this to yamada-kun manga too. He was the perfect bf for nearly all of the story but one single action he unknowingly does, and ppl call him toxic??) Their brains are so small, they can’t comprehend anything besides their anger. The fact that the ML is ALSO a teenager who is dealing with a huge decision to move to a new country. Which by the way, majority of normal kids don’t have any say in whether they want to move with their parents. Those that do, either are very lucky or have the privilege to choose. I’m also speaking from experience because I had to move nearly every school year due to my parents job, and had no say cause I was just a child.

People are saying, “oh the ML doesn’t do anything!” Bffr. He’s the one that initiated things in their relationship 98 percent of the time. And the two percent is FL getting a boost of confidence either on her own or had to be persuaded by ppl around her. The whole reason they’re even together now is cause he pursued her. Yall forget they even had to do a trial relationship for FL to say yes. Even in the latest chapter she had to be convinced by a friend. Anyways they’re both teens who are still immature and have normal emotions, make stupid decisions/mindsets, and will make mistakes. I’m more side-eyeing those adult readers who still have such extreme standards and don’t use their brains.

Not really related to the recent chapter but could someone give me their thoughts on who Kurebayashi would represent in this story?

To further elaborate, metaphorically, I see “Hikaru” as a queer teen who is somewhat open about his queerness. He understands(?) why homosexuality is wrong and he’s seen how people respond to it, yet he can’t fully control how he feels even if he’s aware his feelings are capable or have already hurt the person he likes. Yoshiki is closeted— fearful and anxious of what fully accepting homosexuality will do to his living circumstances, and Asako ( as shown in latest chp ) is still unable to fully comprehend the concept of queerness, despite that she’s still willing to tell Yoshiki to be more open about who he is even if that leads to him being seen as a demon or whatnot.

But what about Kurebayashi? Is she supposed to represent a woman who’s dealt with someone who was homosexual in her family before and has seen what cons came with it but despite that is trying to help others? But even then I’m confused with my own process of thinking.. any thoughts?( ̄へ ̄)

THANK YOU HALLELUJAH YOSHIKI YOURE SPIRALING BUT YEAH YOU'RE IMPOSING HUMAN MORALS ON A NON HUMAN FROM A NON HUMAN PLACE AND YOU REALIZE ITS HARD AND HYPOCRITICAL BUT LIKE. Damn. You still decided to let him. He could have killed him. He already tried once. Not Hikaru would be willing to let himself by killed if it was by Yoshiki's hands probably so.

'hikaru' was prolly slipping back to his old unconscious, raw, animal self trying to hold on to his developed character then he was being pulled back to the living world by yoshiki, yoshiki's soul is too beautiful so he skipped that because there was another soul behind him that can be used as a placeholder, HE DID NOT THINK CUZ HE COULDN'T THINK AT ALL, ALL HE WAS FOLLOWING WAS HIS FEELING TO COME BACK. and so he did and he harmed that little girl (I ain't saying he killed her, there's no confirmation yet, maybe just some brain trauma that will effect her life tremendously)

Also, yoshiki literally stated he'll stay with 'hikaru' even if he accidentally killed someone or he himself will break cuz he loves 'hikaru' that much

So the title is ‘the summer hikaru died’ but Hikaru(real) died during January in the winter. It’s currently summer in the manga so does that mean Hikaru(monster) will die? Someone else said this in the comments but I also think that Hikaru(monster) and Yoshiki will go to the other side and stay there. Hikaru(monster) can’t stay on this side because even if he means well, he still harms humans. I have no one to talk to about this so if anyone wants to discuss with me
