stockholm syndrome is when a hostage starts feeling attached to their hostage taker. that usually happens when under extreme conditions that cause anxiety, the hostage taker is making the victim feel at ease, cared for and/or treated gently despite the hostile conditions that led to their situation. meaning that perceived care and kindness are what cause stockholm syndrome, NOT openly displayed distaste and toxicity.
