ok not 100% sure how to interpret that scene on stage but here's my take - in the story hayden is usually in the position of being a spectator/a member of the audience and NOT the actor (he's majoring as a script writer too even though he was mistaken as an actor before at the party) and we get several scenes where he's always "watching" brett (like at the party, at the football game) where brett feels like a main character and hayden is just watching from the sideline (this is hayden's pov, btw). so i think it's interesting brett is the one watching him from the audience this time and tells him to "do something" ie stop being passive and become an actor instead of an observer!
also interesting that brett says "it's only fair" for hayden to act (might be tied to how hayden has been mostly passive and brett has been the "initiator" of all things) but YEAA i seriously love this story so much. shout out to how the author paces and switches between the scenes it's actually so movie-esque and atmospheric.
i see the looming death flags on top of all of his suffering pls give him just some happiness omg...
him being like you didn't contact me for 30 days but HE also didn't contact brett for 30 days so he clearly thinks all the power is in brett's hands. but from brett's pov hayden just shows up and is cold and aloof like no i have to leave rn even though brett invites him to stay to hang out, so brett is like "oh are you here to talk about scheduling for your rut?" bc brett probably assumes that's what hayden wants.
so has any managed to find any dohyeok/siwoo dupes i've been looking for other manhwa w/ similar dynamics but haven't been able to find any...please helppp
death flag upon death flag pls just give him some happiness with jin he's suffered enough in life already
we can tell hayden is falling for brett bc we're reading this from his pov, but from brett's perspective he sent that message about sobering up to hayden after the party and hayden just didn't even respond for 30 days LOL from brett's perspective i wouldn't think that hayden liked me at all?
this author is tooo good at sketching out personality and character through dialogue. love subverted expectations (everyone expects hayden to get jealous and "protect" brett) but brett takes care of things himself, hayden might be jealous but says "you're acting as if i have the right to get jealous" very calmly. i wonder if it's implied that maybe brett KNEW that the dude would follow him and kiss him and if he wanted hayden to see.
safe word dialogue is chefs kiss, esp the implications of "honey" being the safe word. you can tell hayden is definitely developing feelings but he's guarded bc he's been warned about what brett is like/he has an impression of brett as well so he's not letting himself fall. meanwhile, brett is still mysterious - what is he thinking exactly? he still seems so flippant about everything
In the Canis series:V.1 - Dear Mr. RainKutsuna Satoru, a hat maker, picks up a man collapsed on the ...
- Author: zakk
- Genres: Comedy / Drama / Slice Of Life / Yaoi
or watches a lot of american college tv bc the characters + dialogue are so on point.
brett is generally a nice person but bc of his privilege (alpha + rich) i think he fundamentally has a hard time understanding ppl like that blond who want to be part of a frat so badly that they would humiliate themselves for it. like we can tell that brett is just used to doing what he wants and being true to himself, so he really doesn't get ppl who don't act like that? same with how he doesn't see how his brother is uncomfortable,he lacks empathy in that way.
he's more interesting to me than the other one idk don't die charin!!! (even though you have a billion death flags!!1)
i'm gonna be so sad if charin dies like between two red-eyed blondies charin is more interesting to me than tahir....
like i enjoy fucked up and toxic stories when they're actually interesting this one is just..the same thing over and over the top isn't interesting and compelling enough a character to justify just being trash like this...
charin will die tragically, not before he confesses that he loves jin as well. the emotional shock will cause jin to reawaken his memories completing his transition from lapdog to his prior self (being a psycho? idk) and that'll be the conclusion of his story. then we move on to the other mcs
i have no idea what's coming next lol but have a bad feeling that charin is gonna die tragically :/ i really like him as a character...
Hayden straight up telling Brett he KNOWS he was bullshitting about wolves and sheep is a POWER MOVE. Hayden is saying that he saw through how Brett was trying to manipulate him. This is him asserting power ie. “I was NOT manipulated by you, I KNEW and yet I CHOSE to take your hand.” He's establishing his agency and how he's not just going to be another person that Brett plays around with.
Right now you can tell Hayden is clearly still suspicious of Brett. Meanwhile, we still don't really know what Brett is thinking because he seems so unpredictable and so flighty, things are kind of a game to him. He's not necessarily a bad person btw!!! He's just clear about what he wants, and he'll give equal benefit to the other person so it's "fair"
This chapter lays out how Hayden and Brett are different really well:
Hayden believes that humans can, and should, rise above their “animal” instinct; he finds concepts like nobility, sacrifice and love very attractive. Brett is a “realist” and find those concepts ridiculous, and thinks there is nothing wrong w/ just accepting your nature.
Brett is also a huge thrill seeker and adrenaline junkie. He likes taking risks and unpredictability. He doesn't like plays bc he doesn’t like the fact that an ending is already decided by someone else. He likes football because he likes how the ending could go differently every time.
this is how Brett keeps dominance; ie. he likes unpredictability bc he doesn't want anyone deciding his "story"/"fate".
But what’s interesting is that Hayden writes scripts; so he’s the one who “decides” on the ending when he writes. So fundamentally Hayden and Brett have incompatible personalities and expectations. In some ways this is kind of a fight for “power” between two alphas with their notions of how the world should operate. Which is why this is SOOOO GOOOD.
