I think ppl are either on the side that thinks Sabelian should better handle his trauma without inflicting harm onto others by projecting, or the side that thinks his coping mechanisms are reasonable since he can’t control his PTSD.
I’m no mental health expert or anything lol, but I find myself in the middle. I very much do agree that Sabelian’s trauma is valid, but I also think that he should be held responsible when he hurts others around him for it. At the same time & at the end of the day, we gotta remember that he doesn’t have access to ppl he can even open up to abt his trauma in the first place, so he doesn’t know how to process his emotions or reactions. It doesn’t make it any more okay that Abigail & Blanche get hit with the brunt of his trauma, but once we understand more abt his situation, we also begin to see him more wholly as a character/person. I want him to heal but I also do want him to take accountability. I don’t think those actions are mutually exclusive and it’s a reasonable claim to say that he has work to do to fix his relationships while also understanding that it’s gonna take a lot of effort and time to get it done.
How should he take accountability? The best he can do is say sorry, that’s it. As the king he can’t show weakness especially to someone who recently changed from an obsessive stalker who would use any way to get with him to a decent person. That’s like if you’ve been abused as a child and now whenever someone sneaks up on you, your jump into fight or flight mode. It’s a mental issue, that he can’t explain. So again all he can offer is an unexplained apology. Imagine anyone rejecting you so bad they can’t even stay in the same room with you for some unknown reason that no one will explain. If he gave her that unexplained apology he would be admitting he’s at fault but not why and that would probably make her more confused and angry. So again how should he take accountable without addressing his mental trauma first. They aren’t separate issues, you can’t rebuild a healthy relationship until you fix whatever’s wrong with you.
You bring up some really good points! I agree that an unexplained apology would only be more damaging to Sabelian and I think it’s very reasonable of him to be suspicious of Abigail. I believe that a big part of taking accountability is doing exactly as you’ve stated: addressing the mental trauma and working it thru from there.
Ig my comment was mainly for a lot of the ppl not rooting for Sabelian as the male lead since they only see him for his harsh attitude. IF Sabelian is interested in further pursuing a relationship w Abigail, he needs to let her be AWARE that he has some kind of internal problem he’s dealing with that affects how he will and can interact with her.
Like I said, he has a lot work to do but it’s gonna require a lot of trust and patience and that’s where Abigail comes in. They both have done things to make up for (Abby being an obsessive stalker & Sabelian being an emotionally unavailable jerk) and accountability just means owning up to their pasts, being honest, and making things right between them.
I think a good way to put it would be to list an example of what NOT taking accountability would be: [in the case that Sabelian pursues Abigail] he continues to lash out at her and puts her in physical harm’s way while leaving her in the dust about his conditions.
I mention the idea of pursuing bc rlly, if he’s not interested in Abigail and has no plan to develop ANY kind of relationship w her, then like yea, he truly has no obligation to be vulnerable to her whatsoever. BUT if he has any expectation at all for a relationship be it romantic, familial, or friendly, he can’t continue to cause disparages in their relationship without explaining anything or expressing any kind of remorse.
Istg if team leader is the one who has to make it up to her I’m throwing hands. He literally did absolutely nothing wrong and she just made her own assumptions. She’s abt petty as fuck and needs to get her shit together smh

To answer some people’s questions, yes, Sabelian has a phobia towards women. His previous wife was a lot older than him and she r@ped him while he was sick in bed when he was 15 (i think Miriam was 26?). No one ever acknowledged his trauma, including his own mother who allowed the r@pe to happen bc she wanted an heir from Sabelian. Miriam was just as selfish and she stayed with Sabelian for power rather than love.
The reason why Sabelian treats Blanche so coldly is because, well, A) I think he’s just an awkward father lol. I don’t think he really understands fatherly affection since his dad died when he was young and B) since Sabelian was often frail and sick as a child, he’s scared that Blanche will also grow up weak-spirited. Because Blanche cries easily and is very empathetic, he’s worried about her position as the sole successor to the throne, but he later realizes that those aren’t bad traits and she can still be assertive when it comes to things she cares about (ie. Abigail).
After he rejects the dance with Abigail, it picks up pace and their relationship starts progressing a lot faster. In the manhwa, Sabelian is already showing slight interest in Abigail, but soon they’ll start becoming more...intimate(?) lol. I can’t provide any links to the novel since I bought it off amazon, but I hope this helps! ><
