Ok I studied Japanese in a university in Tokyo and have Japanese family and I translate manga. I generally know what I'm talking about and I just wanted to clear up some things. As I've seen so much bad Japanese concerning Hide's statement.. What he said was 「アイツの事好きっすもん. 'Aitsu no koto sukissumon' Which means 'because I love him'. And yes he uses 'suki' but in Japanese the most common way to confess romantic feelings is '君の事が好きです/だ' 'Kimi no koto ga suki'

No one uses 'aishiteru' it's very cringey and even married couples wouldn't say it to each other.

It's very unlikely that he said it platonically because while its not something a male friend would say to another male friend.

An example of a 'suki' romantically is the popular song '今好きになる」 'Ima suki ni naru' or 'right now I'm falling in love with you'. The statement isn't as vague as someone people are claiming. Japanese people would immediately recognize the romantic feeling behind Hide's statement.

I disagree. It's still pretty vague: "Suki" can be used platonically, like when referring to a child, friend, or thing. However, the "aitsu" does add a bit more intimacy to the statement, but not necessarily in a romantic way (makes since since they're close friends). In the end, it's still inconclusive as to whether it's platonic or romantic, just as others have said. (Though I'm down with it being romantic, but I'm not getting my hopes up).

As someone who grew up in Japan, it made me doubt about your Japanese proficiency the moment you said using aishiteru was cringey.

Everyone complaining about ships. This isn't a romance manga so chill with the shipping pls. Let's just enjoy this manga about karuta lol.

Sammi July 15, 2017 2:27 am

Not judging anyone cause I know a lot of people can't purchase chapters for reasons but just a reminder that if you can, please do because Koogi is putting her health at risk to make this manga and we should support her by purchasing chapters when we can so she can continue this story to the best of her ability ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

All the comments defending chapter 3 make me angry. Once you start saying shit like 'it's true woman are weaker and less capable' you're parroting the same views as places like Saudi Arabia where women can't even go to school with man's permission or travel or drive (though they've started to work on some of those) so stop

    Lee August 26, 2017 4:22 am

Exactly! When it says something like, "All women are helpless" how can we not be offended? We've spent years & years trying to get rid of that mindset so of course yeah we might be a little "sensitive" about it. Having that line there is like promoting that idea that women are weak. The author didnt even try to make it seem like it was just the characters opinion or something like that. She ended The chapter like that & set it up as if it was the moral of the story or whatever. Recognize sexism when you see it

Everyone's saying Kaneki's going to die but I don't think so. That would be way to obvious at this point.

    Anonymous July 4, 2017 10:21 am

Of course is obvious, is a tragedy manga, and the main character isn't doing well...
No one wants that to happen, but how things are going seems inevitable...
