I think he died in beautiful way,in arms of someone who's love you and at last his breath he seems not scared of the death he admire his life and thinking about someone lewis love. He died in peace. Still he doesn't deserve to die

well the ending is an open ending, so there is a possibility that bum is still alive and didn't got hit by a truck. But it still depends on how you want the ending to be because it's an open ending
