Internet manga was really low saturation back then. I had to read text translation alongside an original Japanese book. There were a few scanslations. Nothing hosted online because pictures were too big...

Try to push your boundaries a little. Be clear that you are not interested right now but maybe just pick someone who accepts that and hang out a little. It doesn't have to be much.
