Weak Hero

Complete | razen,seopass | 2019 released

…the fact that some dumbasses choose to behave this way, abusing and looking down on others for no other reason than physical and mental domination, thinking they’re all cool and ‘badass’ for doing so… is legit so fucking infantile i could barf, ew. i can’t take any of them seriously. don’t know whether to laugh, snort or cry at this point. perhaps i’ll just do all three. it fits!!! “lOoK aT mEeEeEe, i bEaT uP a tEaCheR aNd rOdE oN a mOpEd ‘cAuSe i’M sO gAnGsTeR!!! i’M sUpEr cOoL!!!!!” *cries in lmfao* (this wasn’t even an important part of the story, either. i simply used it as reference since it was a good example of just how silly some of these adolescent ‘men’ are behaving.) this manhwa’s so much fun to read, though! i’m getting a whole lot of nice, explosive dopamine boosts as i’m reading this. and i get them damn often, too!!! really, i didn’t even know one could read such violently graphic comics on webtoon! i’m pleasantly surprised, i’ll admit... not at all disappointed. go get ‘em, gray & company!!! edit: i’ve now reread the whole thing (i’m fully caught up at chapter 240–excitedly awaiting updates), and this is soooo much better than i remembered it being! not just that, but it just keeps getting better and more intense by the chapter!!! excellent character development, for one… great world-building… and amazing emotional complexity, too! there’s so much one can take from this. honestly, i figured ’weak hero’ would just be one of those typical school-bullying, nerd-turns-boss type shit… but it’s actually so much deeper than that. other than the incessant fighting, it’s mainly a story about loyalty, friendship, strategy, corruption… and we’re even starting to enter the realm of politics now as well! man, i can’t WAIT for gray and donald’s final fight somewhere down the line, lol. it’s definitely heading our way!!! there’s absolutely NO. CHANCE. IN. HELL. that our two geniuses with infinite (?) potential in both strategizing and martial arts prowess… won’t ever go head to head. there’s just no way. i have no idea when—or how—it’ll happen… but it surely will. i’d be genuinely disappointed if it didn’t at this point. i mean, the manhwa’s already incredibly action-packed, well-drawn and enticing… but that’d be some next-level storytelling if you ask me, lol. either way, this is an excellent read! seeing this through was definitely a good decision on my part, and ’m really looking forward to see how their story ends. :) edit #2: DID MY BOY DONALD NA SERIOUSLY JUST FUCKING DIE ON ME??? stop. please tell me he didn’t. :( he had some of the best redemption arc potential i’ve get seen in a comic, what the hell??!!! this CAN’T be it… i’m gonna fucking cry if it is. no, no, no, no, NO. fuck this shit, i won’t accept it. P.S. i know he’s technically supposed to be ‘the final boss’ and all, but i truly can’t see him as one. there’s way too much depth, complexity and background information to solely paint him as the villain when he’s literally just a broken boy with a devastating past whose mere existence was cursed by existence itself. fuuuuck meeeee. donald deserved a real chance to heal and find himself. :( he was never going to hide behind this ‘bad boy persona’ of his forever… it wasn’t real and i motherfucking saw that!!! any reader who actually paid attention to the development of the story (and its characters) would see that, too… and they’d feel equally as shattered as i do right now. this is genuinely so upsetting to me. i don’t even know what to do with myself right now. i was so looking forward to him and gray bonding and eventually becoming best buds… the vibes were there, the groundwork was there, and the redemption arc was literally RIGHT. FUCKING. THERE!!! not fair if you, author. you took away my favorite character. (ಥ﹏ಥ) …but still, though donald na’s chapter WAS closed near damn impeccably, i’ll admit. i couldn’t have asked for a better send-off for my favorite character... i’m just so upset and needed to vent. i wanted to see him thrive and find happiness so, so badly… STOP. i’m gonna need a minute to process this… or two. or two-hundred and sixty-three. whatever. ༶ඬ༝ඬ༶ (please be a dream, please be a dream, please be a dream, please be a dream—)

The Player That Can't Level Up

Ongoing | 가빈지, Aengmusae, PARK Jungjae, Studio Khit | 2000 released

fucking hell, i love manhwas like this. really fires me the up!!! it’s like a combo of all my favorites (within this particular genre) plot-wise—especially the angel slash demon trope, lol. it’s creative and entertaining and i have essentially no complaints!

The Legendary Mechanic

Ongoing | 齐佩甲, 西阳 FDL,雪狼, 自然猴 | 2000 released

it’s definitely enjoyable, albeit the plot’s somewhat messy and not as logical and ‘cohesive’ as i’d hoped it’d be. still, i’ll be continuing for now! i wish to see where this goes.

Light & Shadow

Complete | Ryu hyang,Hee won | 2000 released

this manhwa will, most likely, forever be a favorite of mine. <3 i think i’ve read it… thrice, maybe? doubt that’ll be the end of it. sheesh.

Aidin

Ongoing | Wheedrian, Myeongrang,Choi Joo Eun | 2000 released

this lady is a QUEEN. love her. the whole story is fire af. i really miss the old art-style from season 1, though… i felt like that’s what made the story particularly unique since it was quite different from what i’m used to. still, i’m going to continue reading! hopefully, the overall quality hasn’t dropped over these past 2 or so years since it first went on hiatus. (edit: also, i sped-read my way through the raws in about 40 minutes or so, so i kinda finished the story already, lol. i clearly don’t know all the details, though, but i feel like i understand the gist of it.)

Suddenly Became a Princess One Day

Complete | Plutus,Spoon , 스푼 | 2018 released

wooow... that was one beautiful story. first of all, i LOVED our two main characters—(and yes, i’m referring to daddy dearest)—whenever they spent time together. their relationship was borderlining on sheer PURITY, man. the care and loyalty they felt for each other by the time we’d reached the end of the story… it was so sweet, and even though their emotional journey might’ve been an agonizingly slow process at times, they eventually found solace in each other and grew into a true family. it was amazing to see. personality wise, i’d say they had originality and complexity and intelligence and elegance… and a whole bunch of other nice things, lol. athanasia and claude (and lucas as well, though, not gonna lie) must belong to a superior species of humanity or something, seriously. waaaack. (ugh, don’t mind meeee.) anyway!!! for whatever my opinion(s) might be worth, i also really enjoyed the pacing of this! it didn’t feel rushed or forced or ‘too slow’ or anything of the like at all to me. it had pretty excellent timing, i thought. an overall nice development and a subtle (yet progressive) layout. not a whole lot of the stereotypical ‘isekai drama’ happened in this manhwa—which was refreshing and something i personally appreciated! however, despite the lack of ‘events’, so to speak, i never lost interest. i’m actually quite happy about the fact that it was more focused on the emotional developments and the growing relationships between the characters (and similar aspects) instead of a more clear, progressive plot; like an obvious revenge trope or perhaps an all-consuming yearning for wealth or power. honestly, i’d like to say it was more lighthearted in that regard… but that’s definitely not the right word for it—especially since it became surprisingly heavy at times, and it felt consistently (and emotionally) intricate to me as well. i don’t know that expression makes sense to anyone else, but i can’t really find a more befitting word as of right now, sheesh. perhaps others would say that’s an overestimation, but i really did grow attached to these guys… and i for sure sobbed on at least one or more occasions, which is quite unlike my usual character when it comes to this genre. i don’t feel i would’ve done that unless the emotional buildup was there and felt authentic. since it was mostly centered around athanasia, claude and their slow-changing dynamic, the author was clearly able to focus on their father-daughter relationship a lot… and i think that shone through in the end. perhaps it shouldn’t have been all that surprising, after all. aaaand, despite the general lack of ‘events’, as i so nicely put it earlier, i still made sure to read every single update as soon as i saw one was available. to be fair, i suspect i might’ve ended up feeling quite bored with this if i hadn’t found the characters as interesting and likable as i did… but i obviously wasn’t, in any way, disappointed or frustrated with the final outcome! well, i suppose i could be biased… but that’s why you’re here reading this review, correct? (heh.) i might even come to reread this one day—simply because, once again, i loved this father-daughter duo and their slowly (but sweetly) progressing relationship. but hey, let’s not forget about my guy lucas!!! i’m actually quite fond of that one as well, lol. either way, i feel pretty content with the final conclusion we got, too! i think it was a smart way to create a (sort of) open ending. i’m sure plenty others would disagree with me, though… but who cares about themmm!!! although, despite of what i literally just said two seconds ago, i’ll still be looking forward to the upcoming side stories! i just hope they won’t leave us with more questions than answers. but you never know! doubt i’ll be unhappy about it, whatever it might be about. in any case: gorgeous, enthralling writing. otherworldly, ethereal-looking art. excellent, believable character development. perfect, balanced pacing… overall, i’ve absolutely ADORED this slow-paced, wholesome father-daughter relationship of theirs. genuinely—i even felt so touched that i actually SOBBED. i mean, what more can i say? 100% worth reading the whole thing, and i’d do it again. honestly, i probably will… and soon, too. #noregrets <3
