Futsuu ni Koi Shite
TW: past pedophilia, assault, stalking, boss-subordinate relationship There are times when i can't pinpoint why exactly i like a manga, and this is one of them. Be it the characters, the development, the dynamic or pacing... i guess you could say that i like everything about this manga. Such a lighthearted, wholesome, and enjoyable read. (Also that "don't couples always have sex right away?" line... awesome dig on other BL mangas lmao)
Majo to Neko
TW: dub-con, self harm, violence Kudos for originality but the story and characters were extremely under explored despite the interesting premise. It came off underwhelming by the time i finished it. One thing i like is that eventhough MCs were in a fuck-or-die situation, they still took the time to establish consent.
Kimi ni Barenakya Honto ha Motto
After Staring at the Starry Sky
So wholesome. The conflict and resolution is so very cliche but it still made me feel good. I wish the relationship was better developed though, because a work like this is rare to find and i wanted to see them grow out the "fanboying over each other" phase before getting into a committed relationship.
Natsume-san wa Hirakaretai
Sex positivity in this is off the charts! I love how the author emphasized that sex is a team effort that relies on communication. The tenderness between the MCs also made me go weak on the knees, damn. There's something not sitting quite right w me though, idk maybe i just wish that the story would unfold differently. Instead of breaking up and seeking out an escort, i would rather see MC and his boyfriend learn to communicate and try their best to find something that works for both of them. The way this manga goes, it kinda tells the readers that good sex is only possible with a sex worker, and it irks me a bit (there are also some dubcon elements--which is a huge shame).
Far from Romance
Oh god the art is Phenomenal. Tbh i don't care much about the western people stereotypes and Luis' characterization, but author nailed the atmosphere and paneling in this manga. Story wise i would've given it 2 stars, but the visual is so out of this world that i had to give at least 4.
Tonari no Otoko
TW: fwb, drunk Oh?? This is actually pretty wholesome. Despite the premise, everything is consensual between the two characters. I enjoyed their dynamic, though it's pretty surface level. I wish they were given more development / time together before becoming a "proper" couple.
The Two Lions
I recently re-read this and i feel like i didn't give it the review it deserved, so here it is! I really liked the pacing of this story. A lot of BLs especially the R18 ones always seem to be in a rush to get the characters to have sex, eventhough there's little to no development in their relationship romantically. Here, the story ends with just the possibility of a romance. The small kiss that the MCs had at the end was even....lackluster? In a good way though! It was followed by a comment saying that they needed more time (to get used to the idea of them being involved romantically), and the story ended there. Which i think is Great. I respect the author's awareness of what stage MCs were in their relationship, and her choice to pace the manga accordingly. A lot of readers seemed to be disappointed with the lack of romance, but imo this manga is more about friendship and self acceptance, and the ending is perfect for what it is.
