Doukyonin ga Fuantei Deshite

Ongoing | takada fumiko | 2019 released

Very funny and entertaining read! I liked the mundaneness of it all. Just them living their lives. Fuantei is such a relatable character with her asocial-ness, and Shikkari balances it out. Them both being otakus adds another layer of relatable comedy.

Yoake no Joshou

Complete | Mitsuki Emi | 2000 released

I came for the cover (Arun is so fracking hawt), but the first couple wasn’t that bad! I liked how it was actually mutual love all along, and it showed us their relationship as adults. Very wholesome and sweet. Also realistic! I appreciated how the author included their fears of being rejected as a gay couple. Kiichi’s brother’s love story was also pretty sweet. Loved their dynamic. Anyway, this taught me I need more Indian rep in BL!

This Love is a Traves-tea?!

Ongoing | Yamanaka umebachi | 2019 released

16 i don’t know why, but i dislike the ml for some reason… and it’s not bc of his beard. i thought this would have more commentary on patriarchy, but the author just threw that plot point away.

Sabishisugite Lesbian Fuzoku Ni Ikimashita Report

Complete | eita kabi | 2000 released

This isn’t just a good depiction of the author’s lesbianism but also one of mental illness. the way the mangaka iterates their feelings is very direct and compelling. the autobiographical and personal style makes the initially difficult topics the manga broaches so realistic and relatable. me personally i heavily identity with the mangaka’s experience with gender like wth?? why does this put into words so much of the feelings i’ve had for a majority of my life. “It wasn’t like I wanted to be a boy, more like I hated the idea of belonging to a gender. That somehow before I was ‘me,’ I was a ‘woman.’ Like I was scared of being overly defined by those expectations…” I’m glad the author recovered in her own way, finding that “sweet nectar.”

7 they’re so funny! also love how this talks about the entertainment industry, esp. about being in the limelight and not feeling “seen.” I need moreee

Unmei no Tsugai ga Omae da Nante

Complete | Haruta | 2000 released

V2 C6 Very funny. I think this illustrates the omega x alpha relationship quite well. I like the “enemies” to lovers trope, but this is also pretty typical in that the leads succumb to their bodily instincts. Or is that actually the case? Interesting question to wonder about, but I liked how they realized they liked each other. I guess love doesn’t always need a reason. Also, why does the MC look so much like Denji….

I Was Mistaken As a Monstrous Genius

Ongoing | | 2022 released

27 Honestly, as a novel reader, this manhwa adaptation feels redundant. The art is mid, and I just have to say I’m quite disappointed. This is like a basic outline of what the story actually is. All the details about the MC’s acting get lost in this adaptation. The novel does a much better job at describing the visceral emotions and character he expresses through acting. It just feels so lacking and bland. To top it all off, they did him so dirty like why is he uglyyyy BUT hey this is still an alright manhwa. just pales in comparison to the novel

Yanpapa to Tenshi to Ore

Ongoing | Riona | 2019 released

Wow, this was a journey… But the ending was so rushed. They barely get together, and then there is a time skip?! I liked how this really detailed the gay experience and the kind of reality of it all. Finding out you’re gay later in life is very much a real thing like what happens with the ML (the one with a child). The manga definitely takes a unique route with how the mother of the ML’s child takes custody of the daughter (Lilia) again. The two day visitation per month thing is wild. This felt realistic, yet bittersweet. Nice fluff, though.

The Man on the Other Side

Complete | Ueno potato | 2022 released

This was an interesting, introspective read! The MC is such an over thinker and self-deprecating guy that the whole story feels awkward because it is told from his perspective. In that sense, this was definitely more relatable than I’d like to admit. It’s a semi-unique twist on another wise typical romance trope where the MC is just a “normal” guy, and the love interest is this celebrity. Anxiety-filled yet cute read at the end.

Yasaotoko to Sadistic

Complete | Hideyoshico | 2010 released

Eh, this was alright. The ending was lackluster, but maybe that was the overall vibe the author was going for. Things vaguely get resolved, but it’s nothing satisfying. The ML, glasses guy, one who was bullied, accepts the MC’s feelings. Their dynamic is definitely an interesting one. The stalker MC just keeps jutting into the ML’s life until it’s natural. Weird but surprisingly not toxic.
