Ongoing | shippo tanuki,murasakifuji murasaki | 2000 released

im gonna kms this is basically a promotion for the novel very short and obviously unfinished (this is only a small percentage of the light novel after all)i really liked the characters, though! the mc and her skill r so interesting… guess i have to go read the novel now~

Saiyaku ni Shite Madowazu

Ongoing | Shimaji | 2019 released

ahhh this is really good. sometimes you need old men BL. it doesn’t have that spark of puppy love but it still manages to be romantic in its own unique right. i love how this is mature, and you get to see their domesticity ^^ there doesn’t have to be any clear labels; you can just see they mean a lot to each other. the side characters are realistic and aren’t used as one dimensional pawns for the sake of the plot. the leads’ dynamic is so delightful. the mc is relatable and kind of a tsundere while the ml is deadpan yet doting and considerate

Lily Love

Complete | ratana satis | 2000 released

I liked this! Very lovely romance with school life. I just think there should be more to the story. It would’ve been nice to see Ploy’s boyfriend dealt with AND JAILED for literally kidnapping someone… The author tried to play it off like it was just a silly mistake, but I’m not buying it. They also didn’t address Donut kissing Ice… Even if it happened during a fit of anger, it still should’ve been talked about more imo. Other than that, I appreciated the realism. Ranging from Mew’s non-accepting father to Donut’s open minded mother to Donut’s willingness to stay a couple and not let anything get in their way— everything was portrayed fairly realistically. Ploy was also a pretty nuanced character, not just Mew’s persistent ex. This is just a me problem, but I didn’t like entertaining the idea of Ploy x Ice…. Bleh

Owner of the (Animal) Detective Agency

Complete | Noji | 2019 released

This was so cute! I enjoyed reading about their detective shenanigans and them flirting while doing it haha. Their pets are too adorable like the fat cat and the parrot. I liked the extra where we got to see more of their dynamic as lovers. Good, comedic read.

I Got Sent to Another World, but It’s in the Mountains. In Reaction, I Choose Comfort Over Strength.

Ongoing | Jaga butter,Iwasaki minako | 2019 released

25 I forgot how something without harem can be… so refreshing!! I’ve been reading so much garbage lately. There’s a potential FL, but she can hold her own weight and doesn’t depend on the MC or anything. This isn’t just your ordinary “slow life” manga. I quite like how spirits are a large focus on the manga. Plus, he’s literally befriended gods?? Bro is OP but not in the typical way… yet still OP.

Genius Archer’s Streaming

Ongoing | | 2022 released

I like how this has a clear distinction between game and reality. This also allows for, at the same time, a blend of it. The MC's arm is crippled in real life, but in VR, he's a genius archer. I like the world building as it feels real. The characters are dynamic, and the esports aspect isn't the only focal point of this manhwa so far. we get to see a lot of the mc's character. he's relatable, and i think we can really connect with him emotionally! plus, the action is engaging. plus, the novel is GREAT. esports action plus great relationships with characters

Instructor Chiba Isn’t Flattered

Complete | kingyobachi deme | 2019 released

I need a second volume right neow. I loved this (and the Initial D reference)! It was indeed very refreshing. The setting is different as it is in a driving school. It's very clear that the leads are adults, and I liked how the leads communicated healthily and didn't allow any misunderstandings to persist. The romance felt very natural, and the art was just *chef's kiss*. So beautiful. It did kind of feel underwhelming, though, with nothing much for me to take home really. What was that dumb plot point with the ex coming back... Seemed unnecessary to me. This story didn't need more drama. The author could've expanded on Yaotome (the ML) literally using Chiba (the MC) for his manga... But still a good read.

Sorekara, Kimi wo Kangaeru

Complete | Komatsu | 2000 released

I usually don’t like one shot anthologies, but this one was pretty good! The stories all kind of balanced each other. The first two were about a rather bittersweet, unfulfilled love, and the others felt a bit more hopeful in nature. I especially liked the third one! It was very fluffy, the one with the delinquent-looking guy and otaku. The second one was the weakest story-wise imo. The first and last ones were very atmospheric and felt realistic (in part due to the art). Good read.

Butai ni Sake!

Ongoing | Harusono shou,Harusono Syou | 2019 released

The only problem is that this is too short. How could the author make such a hunk of a man, but only use him for like 20 chapters??? *cough* Irami. This author has like two other long running works, but this potential masterpiece gets the short end of the stick for some reason. *cough* Sasaki to Miyano. Also, I just couldn’t get into all of the characters, especially the side ones. It kind of felt like your typical coming of age story? One thing the story nailed was the portrayal of the MC’s anxiety. It was very realistic and relatable. The writing altogether is so masterful, and most of the characters are multifaceted and have their own struggles. However, I wanted Oniwa and Irami’s relationship to be expanded upon a bit more!! That aside, this was an above average acting manga.

Your True Color

Ongoing | Fuyume saya | 2019 released

I didn’t like how the plot progressed at first, but it got better as the story went on I think. The way the conflict was resolved felt refreshing. The Sumika Sumika showed others was also a part of her, persona or not. So questioning the difference between the TV Sumika and her real self might not have mattered all that much. I liked the themes of teenage friendship/angst, and contrary to what others might think, I actually liked the romance! Sure, it wasn’t typical, and it didn’t exactly have a label, but I think these types of romance are quite underrated. Ito definitely grew as a character, from someone who’s bland to someone who actually takes initiative. I liked when the author was a little more subtle in the storytelling, too (e.g. them discreetly telling us that Sumika’s uncle is gay). Overall, this was an interesting manga exploring the idol fantasy.
