I'm a mix. from my mum Belgium (French)/Spain (Spanish) and from my dad Italy (Italian)/Thailand (Thai). son from my birth I've been speaking those four languages, plus I started learning English since 4 years old, and also can speak Chinese Mandarin and Japanese and conversational German. Languages that I can get by is English and Hmong. I took Japanese for 4 years (I understand by listening and reading a bit more than I can speak it though) and I still want to continue to learn in the future. I know a little Thai just from watching lakorns (thai dramas)... maybe a little Korean and Chinese. But I definitely want to learn French or......   reply

I used Duolingo for Japanese. I thought it was pretty good for rapid learning of basic conversational words, sentence structure and grammar. It's not as in-depth as Human Japanese, but every little bit of practice helps and Duolingo offered that practice while making it fun and interesting.   4 reply

English is my first language and I'm using Duolingo and some other programs to learn Russian.....it's really freaking hard but that feeling you get when you hear a word in daily life and recognize it is pretty great (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧   reply

hej. so I kinda have experience in this topic lol I'm a language student and I did most of my English learning online before duolingo (I got better by reading manga actually haha). I've been using that tool for 3+ years now and if you really use that plus a lot of dedication and get help on other websites and tools you can get REALLY far into langu......   reply

Even if you're learning a foreign language at school, it's never enough to be any fluent in it, so in fact everyone who's a bit good at anything besides their ownl mother tongue, has been self-teaching.
