The ML is pretty stupid, I have to agree. Maria is also such a pitiful character but she honestly is a little annoying and I totally understand the MC's sudden thoughts of wanting to kill her because she is so afraid of dying herself. The og FL is kinda giving me white lotus vibes, mostly because she would kill for her love being one-sided... (⊙…⊙ )
It feels like the angst was added because they didn't have any more ideas for the cute married life so they threw in some random ahh death curse to make it sad (⊙…⊙ )

It explores humans sure, but if you see other works of the same theme they are way worse on the abuse. This story is almost AWARE that exploring humans are bad and this is the problematic of the story, heading towards a more pacifist route where the mc will take over the farm and take proper care of the mutants instead of treating them solely as livestock like the villain (mister g or whatever his name is).
So looking at the bigger picture, it's not really that bad... there's no killing, no abuse, torture (at least not by the mc, who helped M to get out of the machine) and the art style is soooo pretty.
