It kept bothering me when I read that the novel and the manwha were different, so I decided to read the novel (at least what you can find translated online).
I have to say, although it follows the storyline to a certain extent, it's different. A bad different for me. The situations the twins are in, the different exchanges with the princes... and the emperor... it's truly different and I can understand and grieve the twins' pain. I don't know why the manwha artist decided to skip certain details that are important imho, and I don't understand why she kept or added new characters either.
I recommend anyone interested to read the few chapters available, it's so good and it's heartbreaking too. I read it in wuxiaworld since in novelupdates all of the links have been deleted...
Update: I just finished the chapters available, and the manwha really can't compare. The emotions, the exchanges and situations. It's a beautiful novel.

Definitely! I felt frustrated with the manhwa because although I understood the twins it felt off... the novel is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! The author here added too many irrelevant characters, changed conversations (like who is speaking to the twins and what they're soeaking about too), changed events drastically (there's no duke and nobles plotting to kill the twins in the novel...)
I'll also add that you can read exactly what they're thinking and feeling and it feels much more natural... nothings drags on too long nor are there many misunderstandings either. They speak A LOT to the emperor and the princes... they have meaningful conversations too...

It's not really a spoiler, but the main reason why is the abuse. Although we understand the abuse here in the manhwa, it's truly worse in the novel. Jason (the guardian) has a conversation with the emperor and tells him they've been tortured since they were able to fend for themselves... meaning they were probably around 2 years old when it all began.
Although they were adults mentally, the mental and physical abuse was to the point where they disregarded everything they knew and simply acted and spoke in ways so they wouldn't get hit. Their minds slowly regressed to a point where they could only act like actual children to survive :(
You can understand them better in the novel truly.

Chowon really aced this development. I couldn't forgive what he did back then, but knowing he has a mental disorder (no specifics are given, but by the symptoms, you can deduce some...) made me see the whole picture and understand him as a fellow human being who needs help. His upbringing, what Dojun said about him not having anything, his mental disorders, and else... he is a rounded character and I'm glad he was not simply portrayed as a villain but given the chance to redeem himself.
We, the mentally ill, deserve a chance to live like everyone else. Yes, some disorders are worse off than others, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll do wrong. Now that he's taking his medication and properly seeking help, with Kyungsoo by his side, I believe he'll be happy.
I also want to see him interact with Byul more, I somehow have a feeling Byul will come to love Chowon and that'd be so cute (not romantic love of course, like an uncle maybe?).
