I finished reading this and did my maths homework- yeah, I was /that/ desperate to get the feels out of my head. I don’t cry easily reading these kinds of things, but when I read that scene of them reuniting and crying together, a single tear just slipped out which honestly surprised me- this was such a beautiful read.

I want to give it five stars, but at the same time, it also left me with so many unanswered questions...

K seemed to be interested in Gusam (ah- speaking of which, we don’t even know his surname, I just realised) which might have been why he interrupted when he was talking to that girl? But then, it also seems like he was the one who pushed the murder onto Gusam. It’s not unusual if he stayed by his side and made him think that he would only be safe around K as a form of mental manipulation, but he never did that, which confuses me.
Was he jealous? Of how Gusam lived so freely? That he wanted to drive him into a corner? When he asked him if he was tired of his life, and he said no, did it make him want Gusam to feel that? Like in the end, when Gusam told Suchae that he was scared and tired. Was that what he wanted?

Also ;-; granny ;-; she was so precious. Whatever happened to her... did she wait for them? Did the detective notify her of their deaths? How did she react? Do they perhaps meet again in the next life as well?

What happened to the detective? (The other one, not Young-gil) Did he ever find out the truth? Did he feel guilt? Did it bother him until the end? Or the kid who was bullied by K...

Some scenes felt kinda random too, but I wonder if there was meant to be some kind of symbolism behind it that I just didn’t catch haha-

The creator made so many intriguing characters, and left so many plot bunnies, that it makes me so curious.
But at the same time, the manhwa ended so perfectly that it would feel wrong to continue where they left off. A separate spin-off would be nice, just to know... but at the same time, the whole plot seemed like,,, just an excuse? They needed something to bring them together, and what could bring two people together faster than running from the law-! So I guess that’s why the focus on it wasn’t so heavy. The main thing was just... them. Their story. How they met, fell in love, died, and reunited ;^;

I accidentally spoiled the ending for myself by reading comments before starting, so I knew they died together. As I read it, that scene where he thinks to himself, ‘how can I leave you?’ I kept thinking about how he really didn’t. Until the very end, they stayed together.

In a way, the story feels incomplete as a whole. But /their/ story, at least, didn’t.
Thank you creator, and thank you for translations !!

This was honestly so beautiful. I wish it was dragged out a bit longer, but regardless, I love the main characters, their relationship, the plot... thank you ;^;!

yuxzoa January 20, 2021 10:39 pm

Is anyone else like this where you end up liking the side couple more in a manga? That’s usually me, but this is the first time where I just really love the main couple..!! I’m not usually a fan of the cold type either but when Hajime started loosening up, he turned out so cute I can’t ε=ε=(ノ≧∇≦)ノ
I’m glad the two brothers managed to talk it out a bit. Their relationship is still really strained though, and I resent their damned parents for that ;_; hopefully they do end up working things out moree

This makes so much sense- like from the beginning it was obvious that Yama was the one who planned it all/was responsible for what happened, and that 704 wasn’t at fault. But I could never understand why?? This explains a lot ;-; I feel so bad for him aghh

If anyone’s confused then rb with which part confuses you specifically and I’ll try my best to explain (pls don’t just say to explain vaguely cause idk where to start from ;^;)

    Bëanîn January 20, 2021 4:13 pm

Why are we blaming 704 for anything and how is Yama involved?

    dgn January 20, 2021 4:19 pm

Actually, I feel like I understood the main point, but I didn't understand Yama's role. I may have forgotten a little bit, I haven't been reading for a while. Can you explain a little about Yama's function? and San is the human rn right?

Why are we blaming 704 for anything and how is Yama involved? Bëanîn

I think it’s because before it seemed as if 704 made a mistake and San ended up in the underworld even tho he was not actually dead.

Now in chap54 we see Yama give 704 a note that shows an “unaccounted death” and tells him that to go collect the soul. The note says that it’s been 10 hours and 704 says the soul might not be there anymore but Yama tells him to go anyways. They were already behind on the records so 704 didn’t question it and went.

I guess this kinda shows Yama planned it? Because he knew that San had strong spiritual powers and that he was unique. San’s body can enter the underworld along with his soul whereas other humans’ souls would be forcibly separated with their bodies.

    Agree with person above ^!

Basically in the previous chapter when Yama told 704 to pick up the soul from 10 hours ago, it hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s very likely that it was San. He knew about Geumsun’s plan to get to Hwan through San- though Yama was the one who orchestrated it all to begin with- and needed someone to bring San back to the Underworld since Geumsun couldn’t do it himself, as a goblin.

Like Geumsun said, Yama already knew that San wouldn’t be killed (cause Geumsun wouldn’t be able to kill a human). Yama used Geumsun as a means to threaten or warn Hwan.

Even though he knew that San was still alive, San was reported as dead, and Yama made sure that a reaper would come and get him (which was 704). Yama probably waited 10 hours so that 704 wouldn’t meet Geumsun there, in case he told him he was still alive.

Because of that, 704 blamed himself for bringing San to the Underworld. He probably felt guilty that San lost all of his memories, and essentially any evidence that he had ever existed. The problem is that he wasn’t aware he was just being used by Yama :0

Yama was basically the mastermind behind it all I guess- I don’t think he can leave the Underworld freely unlike Geumsun and 704, so he just used them.

Also Geumsun never intended to implicate 704, so that’s what the ending of the recent chapter was about.

Oh yeah and I think the reason 704 is involved is because San saw him? Cause Yama mentions that he is able to see through the shadow mask. It’s likely that the reason reapers (and goblins?) wear that so when they take a soul, the person can’t see their face- think of it like, a kidnapper killing an innocent witness cause they saw their face and might report to police

Actually, I feel like I understood the main point, but I didn't understand Yama's role. I may have forgotten a little bit, I haven't been reading for a while. Can you explain a little about Yama's function? and... dgn

Hmm to explain his ‘function’ is kind of hard, since that won’t become clear until it’s completed- but basically what he’s done is set the play into motion? He’s known as the god of death in Hinduism and Buddhism- that’s why he kind of resides over the Underworld in this. Hwan’s existence though, puts the Underworld into chaos because suddenly too many people are dying, they’re short of staff, and ‘unknown’ deaths are troublesome- he’s basically willing to do everything to get rid of Hwan. You can see he’s really bothered by the death records etc.

If it weren’t for him, 704 probably wouldn’t have brought San to the Underworld, Geumsun probably wouldn’t have tried to hunt down Hwan through San, and San probably wouldn’t have become a ‘goblin’- I mean, he would’ve been eaten by Hwan, which would’ve been detrimental. Cause then Hwan would become powerful and mess up the death records even more. Yama prevented that, but he’s kinda manipulative to get what he wants. It’s not like 704 willingly agreed to get involved, for example.
You can argue that what he’s doing is good, but then, he never explains what he’s doing- he tried to kill Hwan a third time, but to do that, he had to get MC alone by luring San away, which almost killed them both. He sees everyone as his tools cause, yknow, he’s a god- or king(?) idk what title they use in this.

And yeah San is probably still a human at this point? Since his soul and body never separated. All that happened was that evidence of his existence disappeared. He was only disguised to look like a goblin, so if they removed it- like the symbols and everything- I think he’d still be human.

You explained very well, thank youu sm. Everything is clearer in my mind rn. Yama is not black or white in this story, I think gray. may be different. we'll wait and see.

Yess I agree- Geumsun is kind of morally grey too, though leaning more on ‘good’. I like those kinda characters haha but I lowkey resent Yama for gaslighting 704 *^*

Idk what I was expecting but this exceeded those expectations omg- so good !! I love both main characters, and Satoru was very relatable too ah
It was a really nice read

yuxzoa January 19, 2021 4:38 pm

I liked everything about this apart from the ending ahh- so many comments saying it was satisfying but... I don’t know. I feel like they brushed aside the trauma way too easily by introducing sex and the time skip, without even mentioning speaking to a specialist or anything like that... an open or sad ending would have been better for me, but each to their own.
I was seriously tearing up when reading it, up until around the scene when the MC finally revealed his real name (๑❛ᴗ❛๑)/

    aiyaaaaaaaa~ January 31, 2021 6:14 pm

My very close friend has her big brother lost by some accident...when I think of that kind of calimity on me...I think I would not survive... Being brought back to depression and trauma..and reliving of the same loss she definitely has it but she is strong...the MC kinda was like her ... It reminded alot of how stable she is...she enjoys bl and yaoiland like me...we are ultimate shippers for all fluff and all...and people do get better I saw that myself with time and loving people around...not exact void can be filled but a different kind of home and attachment and desire does make people move on for sure... But then again when if I won't have to endure such thing...which I don't want to ...I would not have recovered I guess... Guess people are different shells of how much they can endure.... As in case of MC and my friend they both wanted to live and move on ...not like forgetting everything but they craved worldly affection...to feel alive because they never were hopeless and disturbed before those unfortunate incident...them being too cold has a limit maybe and they need someone together... but for others they might shut and never face until got real medical help or still reach towards insanity...not because love was ever not enough or life was not precious neither because they want to live now happily...but it is difficult for every person to cope with same situation in same manner and timeline...and even the incident thrown at them makes difference...here the seme was almost rescued..not because of sex but with the thought he had got a family who would love him like his family... Living without a family in this world and gaining a person to call family who takes you as a family..it makes a lot of difference...we are human after all...cause and both cure to most of our emotional instability.... I never wrote all this to offend you...but even I question how she is so good right now... at college... thinking about job..requesting for recommendations of manga..and simping for bl couples.. spending time with friends... It is her way of coping as similar to MC by leaning more deeper relation with the seme... like fleshed out and the most intimate relation ... Have a nice day

I wasn’t offended at all, no worries ~ I definitely agree with you. I didn’t mean that the reason he healed was through sex, since it was evident that their feelings etc. we’re established beforehand. I guess it just seemed like such a sudden shift? Mere moments ago, he was still so convinced otherwise, that it felt like the pacing was just a bit off... but it is true that we all recover at different times, and he had been suffering for a while. It makes sense that that sort of acted like a trigger, like the final piece of the puzzle that he needed

yuxzoa January 19, 2021 1:22 pm

Ahh thank you for updates- I’m so interested in this pair, and curious about what happened in the past, why he had to leave... what’s confusing though?? ( ̄∇ ̄") saw that people were confused in comments and I’m just wondering, which parts? Cause now I feel like I missed something-
