Okay, i just finished the novel and im glad i did cuz there were so many spoilers in the comment section back then that were a little bit inaccurate. But i realized there were also minor details in the novel that were tweaked here in the mahwa.
Here it goes:
Poliana suffered a concussion and rib fracture after this horse accident. Lucius was traumatized to see this and told her never to do that again.
Poliana has too much knighthood idealism. Let’s just settle that first cuz grrrr it was almost unbearable throughout the novel how her logic goes.
She “punishes herself” for being too lax now that the war has ended and believes she needs to return to her former warrior body and mind. But she gets checked up by doctors and is informed she has her period back now.
When Lucius returned to the capital, Rebecca was already bedridden, in fact, ALMOST like a corpse. It’s almost to say that the when she gave birth, she was already “dead”. Lucius’s grief was only amplified when all people cared about was the “unfortunateness” that she gave birth to “only” a daughter.
When Poliana visited Lucius, he was so out of it that he yelled at Poliana to get out. But truthfully, Lucius was actually lusting too much for Poliana that he felt so guilty cuz his wife just died. THIS was the turning point for Poliana to realize that without Lucius, she was nobody. She realized how lonely she was and this made her desperate. She proposed to Frau and exiled herself for about a month.
Their engagement was not official cuz there is a “royal death period” where for 1 year after the death of an imperial member, no noble can seek out an official engagement nor get married. When Poliana returned, the first people she informed was the two ladies. Of course, this news spread and reached Lucius via Sir Aino and he was so hysterical. I will not go into detail about the incidences when Lucius REALLY PINED AND MOURNED for the thought of giving away Poliana to another man. (It was satisfying kekeke).
Stuff happened and Lady Tory did something that stripped her of her status as wife while Lady Stra wanted to divorce Lucius. Lady Stra also confronted Lucius at how he wouldnt just confess to Poliana now. He was surprised that she noticed about his feelings but she said she wanted them together (awww). Poliana however was in her own bubble preparing her wedding and now taking care of her skin and grew out her hair a lil bit
Poliana’s 2 adoptive brothers brought news to Lucius about Frau’s secret son. Turns out. the reason why Frau wanted to marry Poliana (w/ the knowledge that she was barren), was because the title of Marquess Winter wont have an heir between them so a widower man with a son could take advantage of this when Poliana died. Lucius was so angered so he invited Poliana to Frau’s parent in law’s town to see for herself. Poliana was so angered by this that she punished Frau by severing his own balls in front of his son.
Poliana was actually suicidal from the shame of being conned by Frau. She didnt want tp tay a moment longer in that town so she and Lucius rode to another town till night a d stayed at an inn.
At the inn, Poliana bought a whole barrel of pure Acrean liquor (aka the strongest alcohol that’s supposed to be diluted) to drink with Lucius. While drinking, Lucius was surprised to see Poliana cry for the first time. This made Lucius realize how serious Poliana was about the marriage. They both got drunk AF. In their inebriated state. Poliana kept praising Lucius’ beauty while Lucius was confessing “i love you’s” and “i want you” over and over to Poliana. They end up having wild sex but forget the next morning.
When they woke up, they assumed that one raped the other and kept apologizing. Poliana’s body was covered in hickeys. Poliana was convinced that she forced herself to Lucius cuz when they met, She never forgot how Lucius said he would rather bed a dirty prostitute than sleep with her. Lucius was mortified that he ever said that and cursed himself.

Cont..
They decided never to bring this incident up ever again.
To fast forward, Poliana immersed herself again into intense training to punish herself and avoid Lucius. But when she started to notice body changes, she went to 2 midwives who both confirmed she was pregnant. Poliana was deeply disappointed that the baby was not miscarried during her intense training. She could not abort it cuz she knew this will be an imperial baby.
She decided to go to one of her faraway lands from the capital to keep her pregnancy a secret. If the baby looked like her, she was determined to forge papers and never reveal the baby’s true identity. But! She gave birth to a son who was such a copy of Lucius there was no mistaking who the father was.
Lucius, from his agitation of not seeing Poliana, visits her unexpectedly and Poliana comes clean. Lucius was overjoyed and proposednow while confessing his love. Of course Poliana did not believe that Lucius was in love with him but Had no choice but to marry him now to give the firstborn son legitimacy. They decide to leave their baby son at that town first and return to the capital to sort this matter out.
Lucius wooed Poliana intensely and their “love story” was famous and favored all over the kingdom. Long story short, Poliana also now admitted love for Lucius and was ready to assume to Empress seat. But Poliana was stubborn. The day before their wedding, she donned her armor and said in front of the emperor and distinguished authorites that she is not to give up her name “Winter” above all. She returned to her son and for 1 year, never had correspondence with Lucius.
One day Poliana was pulled out for a leisure walk by her adoptive brother. But this was a setup for Lucius final attempt to propose. He presented to Poliana the first draft of the overhauling of the Acrean laws where a woman could have inheritance rights. This implies that the princess will be the next in line for the throne, and Poliana doesnt have to give up her last name and have their son Gerald as the heir to the Winter name.
They got married happily although overworked from the demands of forming and strengthening their empire. Princess Luminae and Gerald now grew as close siblings who loved each other.
The ending epilogue was of Poliana going to their bedrooms and being motherly to both of them. When she went to her and Lucius’s bedroom, though they tired, they made love not fearing for a (strongly implied) “third child”.

Thankyou for the spoiler!
I have doubts that the ending or story would end like that because apparently since the beginning of the manhwa it's different from the novel? Maybe Pauliana will fall in love with Lucius but that's after realizing what that bastard's secret is, and them not thinking that their night together was rape. I have no doubts about Pauliana being a good mother to the princess though.

Im reading the novel right now, and the amount of heart clench I got from Lucius being in pain after hearing that Poliana is determined to marry Frau. I almost want to hug him at the same, slap him so he’ll tell the ruth about his love straight to Poliana.
The bed scene where they oopsie fucked was so chaotic tho haha.
For people saying Poliana is dense, she is NOT ONLY dense, but also basically CLUELESS to romance in itself. She basically survived the world being cold, tough and stubborn. The closest thing to a form of “love” to her, is loyalty and admiration because THIS is how she kept her life and dignity as a soldier withstanding the circumstances of being a “disadvantaged” sex.
The reason why she is friendly with Frau Sneke is because she thinks she only deserves that low of a man. Frau Sneke is weak and powerless. While she might not be the best quality of a woman herself, she has her titles and possessions to beget respect from a companion.
Lucius deserves this LEAST suffering from pining and being in unrequited love. In the first place, he was the one who established that he doesn’t see Poliana as a woman.
I dont think it was explicitly shown here in the manhwa but IN THE NOVEL, Lucius did not care if Poliana was to be gang raped first before she was executed when they first met. He also said to Poliana then, that he would rather bed a dirty prostitute than be with her. Poliana never forgot this.
Even with her camaraderie with men soldiers, together with Lucius, she was constantly reminded her of her ugliness, that Lucius was “prettier” than her. Lucius only started calling her “cute” after he realized his feelings.
My gawddddd ..dont know that Lucius in the Novel is such a scumbag...
At least in manhwa he is decent person
Manhwa lucius>>> novel lucius
U can't change my mind
