What side stories? Care to explain? That's only because I'm pretty convinced by Mira's story. But surely this is too simple an end to this manga... so maybe I'll hold off on that idea.
Pretty much all the stories where Arata isn't the main character or doesn't show up at all. Like the prison game or the bus goal game or that game where the girl loses her leg, etc. Maybe side stories wasn't the right term.

So chapter 4 was a let down. Things did not develop naturally.
