The friend was justified in getting mad at him for disappearing. It was actually a discussion on social media one of those days, some people say they never let their friends leave with strangers, others were saying "let adults fuck". My take is:
- Don't just leave first without saying anything, your friend is going to be worried
- Don't pick up someone for sex unless you and your friend both agreed on that. A good friend would stop anyone trying to take you to their homes or to a hotel so you need to tell your friend beforehand so they don't feel responsible (at least not as much) if something happens to you.
- Don't drink (especially not to the point of getting blackout drunk) if you wanna pick people up. Drunk people can't consent, you're gonna end up getting raped or raping someone (SA and SH are possible too)

The author obviously wanted to make that scene with the ML being her white knight, sure, but the friends could have tried to say something or at LEAST exchanged glances. She just keeps wallowing in self pity and using her son as an excuse for why she can't run away, but she obviously doesn't care about him because if she cared she wouldn't cheat in the first place knowing how that could affect him, let alone cheat under the same roof.
