While the two marry at different ages, it is a political marriage. Also according to the manga, minors aren't allowed to have sex to consummate a marriage until they are 18. The kiss at the ceremony was just a formality, it didn't mean anything in particular aside from that. Also the heat thing is not something they control, that is usually the stated reason as to why omegas are treated badly (heats cannot be controlled thus omegas are "trying" to seduce others). Ilya just finds it comforting that there is someone who doesn't just see him as an omega (his own blood family despised him for it), and when he had a heat (a sign of an omega) he was reminded of his status as an omega.

It is made clear in the beginning that Ilya is way older than Khalid, mostly because it is a political marriage. Ilya was the only Omega of his country's royal family, unwanted mostly, and Khalid was the young king in a country that values omegas. Although Ilya found Khalid interesting, it wasn't because of romantic love, but because he has never been treated like an equal by others. And it seems Khalid developed some sort of puppy love for Ilya, however that was one sided.
Over time the two began to care about each other, but it wasn't like lovers but just two people caught in political drama. It wasn't until years later that both actually developed a romantic relationship based on the more platonic feelings from the past and how they valued each other in the present. They didn't even act lovey-dovey until the Civil War ended. So yeah you can be put off by the political marriage between an 18 year old and 10 year old, but there wasn't anything romantic or sexual until 8 years later (in which both were apart due to a civil war).

I also never said it was a different time either, because based on the technology of the story, the time is pretty modern so I didn't bring it up bc it's not a different time.
Actually I do think it's fucked up, because these two were forced into a situation based on political interests and not their well-being. Ilya was sold off as an Omega because his family saw no other value in him, as they even restricted his education, and the first chapter establishes that Ilya hated being married off to someone he didn't even know. I mentioned old times since arranged marriages were a common thing back then but again you don’t get my point. The story would be solid if they just made him an adult from the beginning. Why does he have to be a kid ? Why make it so uncomfortable when they kiss or when the omega goes into heat because of the kiss the kid gave him ? Why would these grown ass adult authors have to include such hugeeeee age gaps when it comes to omegaverse stories. Believe me if the genders would be switched (the kid was an omega and a girl and the grown up an alpha and a man) my point would come across. We’re too easy going with BL stories like this when we shouldn’t since it encourages these authors to make more stories similar.

The son can be considered the most innocent but not really better than his mother or father. I do understand that he was fucked up by both his parents, because one began ignoring him and the other manipulated his emotions. He clearly was attached to his father and suddenly being ignored was not healthy, then the whole witnessing a rape was not good either. Add the fact his mother manipulated his emotions and used her son to further control his father after her death, and he's fucked up for a reason. But man he truly does take a page out of his mother's book by acting just like her, rather than letting go.

The mother definitely didn't see his husband as equal or human even her own son, for her they're just a tool. Like, it baffles me when she didn't even show a single emotions for her son, i didn't even see a single panel of her taking care of kid or just touching him. She always passed the responsibility to the husband, makes me wonder if that's the reason why the son is heavily attached on the father, since he's the only parent who's physically with him when he was a child. That's why it's so heartbreaking to see him so desperate for his father's attention, like damn.
I also hypothesize that the father is a spoiled brat based on the way he texts his parents. And when his parents off themselves, he didn't even try to fend for himself he immediately jump on leching off someone...

The premise could stay the same, except that instead of the shitty excuse, it could've been a genuine accident instead. Like the twin brother understood the MC and ML had mutual feelings and wanted to support them, but whoops, accidental heat. The pregnancy then forces the twin and ml to stay together, they both feel responsible and guilty, staying only for their kid. However, the accidental heat and pregnancy, suddenly being married to someone he doesn't love/doesn't love him back, and also being with someone he knows his brother loves/that loves his brother leads the twin to run away out of guilt and anxiety. The MC and ml live together the same while trying to find the twin, and when they find him they have a discussion about what happened. Through that, the ml and MC find out their mutual feelings while resolving the awkward situation regarding the child's true parentage

The story is not some revolutionary thing, BUT I think it has done something interesting at the least. JK is not in the right at all and as someone said, the bar is in hell, however at least his character has been consistent enough for this to work. In your average chasing arc, the chaser would immediately realize their mistake, change, and do everything to help the one they love (regardless of how fucked up they were and of how much it would actually take for them to change). But here JK still acts the same despite starting to realize how he fucked up, because his character is self-centered and it would be difficult for someone as proud as him to admit they aren't doing things for themselves. Even then, JK is still focused on himself, on the fact that he needs Dan for his own plans (having Dan by his side would just be a happy thing for his ego, as Dan even loved him at one point and doesn't that stroke someone's ego further).
And until now, it hadn't actually sunk in for JK that he has to actually show care for Dan and focus on Dan (not just take him to the doctor and say "now fix yourself"). And it does drag the story because of it ngl, which is a downside. But it actually shows that JK needs to focus on Dan not himself, because that's not a chasing arc, that's just continuing the manipulation from before. But ultimately, the bar might actually be lower than hell, so we'll see how that goes.

Cause one wouldn't just change from a devil incarnate to an ever loving Mother Mary just because their 'someone' leave, esp someone with high ego as Jk lol. While their personalities are shit, the consistency is something worth applauding.
