If he is still a dog in a human body then it sure is weird but he now has human thoughts and emotions. He is basically a human. It can be even thought like he has been reincarnated as a human but still got his memories from former life as a dog.
So if the MC really gets together with red hair, and jonggu turns back into a dog because his owner is no longer lonely and he has no more purpose to be a human, I think he would be pretty heart broken.
