Why is this trope so common?
Guy: "Oh, she's a Virgin! Suddenly I feel so attracted to her, where I might not have before. I actually find her so irresistible that I want to force myself onto her, whether she is interested or not".
Girl: "I'm practically getting raped, but because he's handsome it doesn't actually feel too bad, and now I'm kind of falling in love with him. Tihi"
Like, I get this is smut, but you know what the most sexy thing in the world is? It's CONSENT.
Enough.
I'm sure they explain it away as him 'always having had an eye for her' or 'having been in love with her all along' or something, later.
However his reason for wanting her, doesn't change the fact that he raped her.
No matter how much they try to romantisize or downplay it; Rape is rape.
They fact that so many authors does this, is my problem and what I'm criticising.
Exactly what I mean! Thank you <3
I'll say that forceful behaviour can be quite sexy, if that is what you are into AND have agreed to. But Again, here the important factor is: Consent!
If you're on the same page I say go for whatever style of play you want, even if what you like is rape-play. But this does NOT work without extensive communication, prediscussed agreements and safe words!
Which this manga doesn't have...
I think I've figured out why I find this story so boring and why is seems so dragged out to me...
And it's that the whole story is basically just a long inner monologue from the mc. From start to finish. Going over every single detail.
It's so bland because ALL we get is mc's thoughts on everything and minimum amount of plot is expressed through actual dialogue or actions from the characters.
I believe this wt is based on a Web novel (correct me if I'm wrong).
Many of these are written in first person.
As such, it makes sense in the novel for everything to be described and explained from the mc's point of view.
But this is a Webtoon. The tools used for story telling should be different!
There is literally NO point in illustrating the story if the plot is still only told in mc's inner monologue and nothing else really gets added to it.
Yeah, that's how I feel about it. I'm done ranting now.
I'm really considering dropping this... I mean, the artstyle is pretty and all, but god...! The story and characters are bland.
I really hate how so many WT in this genre needs to vilify all other women than the protagonist. Either by making them directly mean to her, or by painting them as shallow or less-than humans, thus making our mc fall into "not like other girls"-trope... As in: All other girls suck, but dw the mc is not like that - she's better.
This also really seems to be her ENTIRE personality; That she is not like other girls. And it's also the SOLE reason why the ML is beginning to become interested in her.
I get that with these perfect-to-a-fault kind of ML's the FL needs to have something special about her, to draw in his interest and make the romance aspect make sense.
But if the only way you can make the mc special, is by dumbing everyone else down, you've not written a very good character.
And it's not like the premise is bad. Cloe has some pretty outstanding medical skills and a kind, carefree personality. But when everyone around her are "mean", "shallow" or "manipulative" it actually makes her admirable qualities stand out LESS.
Sorry, I'm done ranting. This trope just really bothers my feminist heart (≧∀≦)
agreed, this manga is basically a condensed version of the reddit r/notlikeothergirls thread. its like, manhwa thinks the only way to get a guy is to live in a world where all other women are bitches with no talent. Also the guy looks like he has a stick up his ass everyday, hypocritically judges other people, while he himself is a pretty snobby with a phD in Asshole Studies at Harvard.
The obsession with status and money across these kinds of stories is really obnoxious.
It hasnt occured yet but its getting there here. nine out of ten, the stories just focus on women marrying rich. Only a few manhwas focus on the main characters wanting to be with a commoner or turn commoner. Even then, the commoner life is seen as a stepping stone to bagging an eventual well off man. Its the ultimate form of escapism for the day to day woman.
woman goes to another world, gets a guy cos shes so quirky and not like other girls and other cringy stuff. I dunno why we have to bring down other women just to make one girl look good.
then the story is more centered on the guy showering her with gifts and things. cos somehow getting insane amt of luxury items, shiny things and gourmet food is a MUST, a hallmark of romance, to indicate that a woman is loved and its different from the rest.
This is why i find mangas like this quite elitist. All focusing on bagging a rich guy from nobility like dukes and kings, living the life of luxury that the rich guy gives while fighting another woman who wants the same thing. Basically I call these kinds of manhwas, innocent golddigging. Using the "I love him for who he is" dialogue to differentiate the main character's talentless or boring ass from the rest of the women, but at the end of the day, goes back to the same "Let me buy the whole store for you. Let me give u this cos I have so much money i have no idea how currency works even tho I literally run an estate. Let me give you all the money for you to use on ur own or else I will get insulted" kind of fantasy sugar daddy Male leads that you wouldnt meet in reality, Ever.

I came back, after putting this on hold for a couple of months, to see if this has started to have any plot yet...
All I see is disappointment in the comments, so Imma take a guess and say: No...
Well, peace out folks!
lol, I have this manga on break for over a year now, it was getting on my last nerves, but I still check in every now and then and it seems to be going around in the same annoying circle as always ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
it does have a plot, unfortunately, a really annoying, frustrating, nonsensical, contrived and infuriating plot, but we still come back, because it has the potential to be so much more ╥﹏╥
