These last few school trip chapters make me wish Ogawa would try her luck with a Shounen highschool comedy, with worst-of-friends protagonists like Azusa & Karino who get into lots of fist fights & all kinds of trouble.

Oh so it will really happen huh. I remember when it was announced few years ago the author was so unhappy about it. If I remember right they even took a break.
Because it was decided without her consent (they got the authorization from the higher up/editors) and she was against it because it's HER story.

In my country, baby girls get theirs when they're just days old, so we don't remember anything about it and I've never heard of anyone being traumatized by it tbh. I also don't mind because I love piercings so I even got more when I grew up BUT I totally get why the idea itself of having anyone's ears pierced with no consent and just because they're babies is somehow disturbing. It's also heteronormative; girls get pierced while boys don't, all this so people is sure of the baby's gender, lol.
