1. I think the person who helped original MC when he was a child who he can’t remember is himself, he’s tried something similar before but failed (maybe even more then once). Maybe he’s tried ”moving in the shadow”, but time he makes sure his past self picks up his younger self and then they’ll be two of him. Maybe a monster in a dungeon will speak to him like they did to his dad (adoptive)
2. How little we know about his parents is kinda sus, maybe they even had good intentions and were killed - they obviously knew about the child experiment thing and put their own kid there (which is awful) but feel like there’s something missing - they were killed after all
3. His (adoptive) dad is so fine
Fantasy? Amazing art? Quality plot? In this economy???
I was a bit sceptic since Jonak had a fiance who he obviously loved, but I really liked how his feelings for Ilse weren’t overbrushed or taken lightly, it made the story deeper and more bittersweet. Looking at Jonak through Adian’s eyes is heartbreaking and sweet at the same time becuse he loves him so much it hurts.
MC has undoubtedly treated ML harshly and unfair when they were young. ML was forced to become a part of this ”big happy family” where there was greater opportunities of living a better life. While MC never wanted a brother or a new parent, ML has lost a brother and is secretly longing for that strong and unbreakable bond filled with a sense of security. MC knows that and uses it in his favor. He does warm up to ML a bit, but he’s still the child who only sees everything through his own perspective. He’s jealous of ML’s relationship with his family, to the point of being irritated at how ML doesn’t know how good he has it, while he (MC) continues to work hard because it’s his only option because he feel that he can only rely on himself in the end.
When ML finds out he’s an omega it’s like a punch in the face, like a death sentence or a label sent by life to show him that his life has been and always will be filled with a misery he can’t escape no matter how hard he works. Being an omega comes with a cap on the future due to how society works, like how instead of being seen as ”good at his job”, he’ll only ever be seen as ”good for an omega”. It puts limits to his future career and future overall. For the sake of the family, the company, and his future, the best decision is to marry ML. While ML adores him and loves him, he sees it as once again being forced to bend to someone else’s plan and adjust his life accordingly (like when he became a part of ML’s family). Although it is ”for the best”, given his situation, he can’t help but resent ML for it even though he’s done nothing wrong (again, like how he resents ML for living a good life ”free of struggle”).
When MC loses his memories, he has the chance to get to know ML as adults and knows that ML regards him as an equal and treat him as such. He doesn’t understand why of how he could’ve been unresponsive to ML’s feelings, especially since they’re so pure hearted. He feels that his past self was probably very unlikable and from what he learns it seems to be true. He begins falling in love with ML and opens up his heart, unlike in the past when we know they were more like roommates trying not to disturb each other than lovers. ML is still a pushover and weak to ML, while ML swears to himself to treat him better.
When he begin to uncover the truth about the accident and regain his memories, his fist instinct is to leave ML in the dark. At first he even suspects him, but after clearing some things up he realizes it can’t be true. Still, he treats ML as an outsider, with the excuse of protecting him by not dragging someone ”innocent” in, and in the end he continues to lean on himself only while also failing to realize that as long as it affects him, ML is dragged in and affected too because he loves him.
Now there’s a child in the picture. He loves the child and knows ML does too. He’s close to uncovering the truth and regaining all his memories, which indirectly means becoming more like his past self. While he knows ML want nothing more than to help him, he becomes scared of becoming like his past self. He doesn’t like that part of himself, how he treated ML, and is afraid that when he regains his memories ML will begin to like him less or even fall out of love with him. Fearing he’ll stay only because of the child or only continue to love him because if it.
He wants to stay as the person he thinks and feels he is, while also uncovering the truth, and that’s not possible at the same time. He knows the more he remembers, the more of his past self will become part of him, but most importantly he knows that ML knows it too. So he ends up fighting his inner self, while once again not relying on ML. Like I said before, his first instinct is always to deal with everything by himself. The person he remembers himself as is not someone who’s been nice to ML. ML remembers him in a nicer light, but he doesn’t want to become someone who treats him like that either. In the end, he ends up projecting his insecurities to ML which is both unfair and extremely hurtful. BUT they talk it out, becomes even closer to the point of being truly equals, and become a happy family. So it’s worth holding on to the end, even if it gets frustrating.
Yes I did notice I accidentally wrote ML instead of MC, please elaborate on the ”nothing burger”? I didn’t write a lot on purpose to make it seem fancy, I just wrote what I thought of. I’m not a native English speaker so I hope adding more context helps get the point across, but I’m sorry you thought it was messy and confusing. If you clarify what you didn’t understand I’m happy to explain. If not, I don’t really understand the purpose of your comment. To make me feel stupid when I never claimed or tried to be smart? To point out to the world ”oh this person seems like they know what they’re talking about but I can see through it”?
Start binge reading in the middle of the night. The sun is now up. Reads chapter 79. Goes to chapter 80. Oh! A placeholder? I didn’t know it wasn’t finished but actively updating right now isn’t that bad. Last updated 2023!?!? There’s a novel (I said with joy) , the novel is 500+ chapters (I was then stabbed 57 times)
Good story. Healthy couple (we love communication).
I feel like ML’s trauma was taken a bit to light though. It’s played if as ”just a misunderstanding” where to father did have good intentions and once it’s cleared up ML should get ready to embrace him in his heart. He said he didn’t forgive him, but because of how it was followed up his ”grudge” started to seem meaningless and he should just let it go for himself and for everyone else’s sake. His father said he would do it again, not regretting anything because he did what he thought was right and the only way he could think of. He did try his best and should not apologize for grieving his dead wife, or trying to make ML learn magic as he was studying as well in hope of curing him. ML was a danger to other and in danger because of his condition, I can’t even imagine how horrified his father must’ve felt when he too became affected.
By locking ML in a tower, separated from the world and other’s, he could manage his duties while monitoring ML. But the way the it was done was, even if it was the only way he could think of, was extremely traumatic for ML and for that he does owe him a heartfelt apology. He seems to be sorry of how he couldn’t respond to ML with love at the time although he did love him, but not for what he did because it was the only way he could think of. He’d do it again, to protect him, and that’s also part of the problem.
Ignoring the existence of betas who don’t feel pheromones and could’ve easily been hired as staff to cater MC and somewhat make his isolation a bit less lonely, the father literally sent his cousin to mate with him. Maybe cousins weren’t a taboo at the time among nobles, but it was literally his dead wife’s sisters son. The same sister he wanted ML to be raised by like family and naturally they developed a brotherly bond. Even if it was ”the best person” to choose, non of them consented and both of them were also against it. The father couldn’t even take a moment an explain the purpose of this to him? Because the mating doesn’t happen he sends countless others, knowing they have no choice because they’ll be affected by ML’s pheromones and ML won’t have a choice since he’s literally imprisoned with no rights what so ever.
I understand the MC felt disgusted, even with himself, to the point of wanting to end his life. But this didn’t matter at all to the father, who still doesn’t seem to understand the level of trauma he went through. He comes daily to inflict pain on ML, telling him to study so he won’t have to be hurt, but couldn’t have explained it was his way of trying to help his condition and not because he hated his guts? Still, the whole situation is minimized to that his father couldn’t be like a father to him due to the grief of losing his mother and, unknown to ML, he did his best to try to cure him - somehow it’s turned into the father suffering in silence. Now because he’s emotionally available he can just swoop in and make up for everything, playing the ”your child likes me and doesn’t want me gone” card so it would be cruel to his grandchild if he wasn’t allowed to see her. What he forced ML, a literal child, to go through was disgusting and cruel in many ways and that’a why he has trauma related to his father. He’s not avoiding eye contact just because he’s father looked at him in a way that scared him, but also because of the memories of how he lived and was treated those nearly 10 years.
I feel like this is heavily shown when they talk and ML dares meet his eyes. If it only was about the eye contact and associated fear, he would’ve felt much better. Meeting his eyes, realizing they weren’t as scary as he remembered, and that he’s now strong enough to face him. But he was still really tense and uncomfortable when the father showed up later, a conditioned trauma response. MC just wants everyone to get along and be a happy family, but he accepts the father more than ML does and that’s a problem because the issue is between the father and the son. So the father can get ”easier access” to ML through MC because ML would very likely have rejected his visit if he knew he’d come.
And then like ok he is locked up and has barely any communication with the outside world and is a danger. Why didn't the father find a way to show his child some love? Like give him toys or write a letter for him or stabalise him then spend atleast a little bit of time with him. Even mother gothel was better than this

Nothing made sense and then it fell into place perfectly??? So good for so few chapters too. Love it!
