Her ex isn't evil or anything. He's just has unrealistic expectations. It looks like he really thought he could get her to wait a total of 7 years(2 for his war & 5 for his marriage) with the power of love. He doesn't seem spiteful or anything. It looks like he really thought he could just wait it out and sail into the sunset. I mean, the girl is royalty. She has so many other options. Why did he think she would wait longer than they spent together? Stupid but not malicious.
I gotta admit, that takes away from the whole revenge plot.

I'd drop this if I were you. Without giving any spoilers, Ethan and Dwyane will not even meet again until the very end of ch 26. The story ends ch 30. Everything that happens until ch. 27 is pure garbage. And then the story wraps up pretty quickly. It's a happy ending but the way the story plays out from this point on is a disappointment tbh.

Dwayne is literally taken and treated like a pet sex hostage going forward. It's not the worst I've ever seen but it really takes away from what was originally a cute plot. So he's technically with Matthew and William. Ethan gets him back at the end of ch 26. They talk things over ch 27. They have sex ch 28. Fix work problems ch 29. Last chapter is all lovey-dovey relationship stuff.
