I think it would've made more sense if he was studying to get into college not high school that would have made the story a bit more susceptible to me personally. He also could be 16 because maybe his birthday is early in the year but still he's a minor nonetheless.

I just binged read this and I was so skeptical at first because it seemed like it was just so sad like it didn't have any happiness I don't know But I love it so much it actually has humor in it like I have laughed a few times and I have caught myself trying not to scream in my room reading this from laughing also it does have anguish but acceptable anguish I feel like all the characters evolved in good ways a lot of communication and just greatness it was so good i love it.10 out of 10!!! 5 stars!!!
