He "almost lost the most precious thing in his life AGAIN" because in the past, he did consider Diana precious, and then lost her. "Again," because now the situation was going to ""repeat itself"" (in loose terms) with Hestia. There is NOTHING in his statement that implies he cares about Diana as of now. You are filling in gaps that do not exist
But he cares about Diana, she was someone he truly loved, our man has a kind heart. And YES "AGAIN" because he lost the person he loved before when She betrayed him and after go for his best friend.
